Hello Talisman forum users! I just want to say hi and to exclaim that I really really love this board game. I've only played it twice so far, once with 3 other friends and the other time with my two bros and my friend who owns this game. I've won each time too. happy.gif The first time with the Minstrel, and the other time as the Ghoul. The first time I played it, one of my friends was the wizard and after seeing his abilities the rest of us thought we would be out-matched by him, but it turned out that the wizard had a bad case of seeming very attractive to dragons. He encountered three dragons in the duration of the game! Each one taking a life from him till the third one killed him! partido_risa.gif Interesting that I randomly got the two follower-support based characters eh?

When I went to my local game store (after having an arduous journey to get there!) to get the game, I got there just to find out that they didn't have it in stock! serio.gif I picked up the one and only Reaper Expansion on the shelves while I was there since I heard it is such a great and wholesome addition to the game after browsing these forums a bit. Now, I have to wait til May to be back home (was on Spring break when I had first played it) and get the game. I wish I had it now and was out of school!

So, salutations to all of you and happy gaming!

Welcome! Always nice to see some new blood... um.. members!

I'm not sure if I should ask this question here or post a new thread, but for the sake of not adding a short-sighted thread to the list, I'll ask away here.

So I was looking through the cards from the Reaper Expansion, and I noticed that two of the enemy cards have both a strength and a craft value printed on them. Now I have read some threads about this and noted how some here exclaim that these cards are simply "cherry-picked" as to how a character chooses to defeat them, but my question is: When encountering Cerebus or the Lord of the Pit, does a character have to fight the enemy in both craft and strength to claim him as a trophy? I know that there is apparently an "eastern dragon" card from another expansion that dictates to the player with what stat the dragon attacks you with, but these two cards don't do that. Also, they don't say that the character may choose what stat to fight them with, and if the rules in the rulebook (mind you I don't posses the rulebook just yet) state something like...

"upon turning over an "Enemy" adventure card, the character must immediately fight, according to strength or craft, the given Enemy. If the character wins the battle or psychic combat he/she may take the card as a trophy, if he/she loses the battle or psychic combat, then subtract one life from the character"

then doesn't it make sense (if my example for the rules is somewhat similar to the actual rules) that the character has to fight one of these dual stat monsters in both strength and craft?

No, you may choose if you fight him with strength or craft.

Eastern dragon is different. It fights you with your lowest statistic

Ok, I get that. I've read it elsewhere on the forums, but what I want is the reasoning behind this. As far as I'm concerned it seems that these enemies fight you with both of these stats (guess you would roll each stat individually?) because it doesn't explicitly say on the cards not to do so, or to do so. Therefore its clear that there has to be the rule from the rulebook that sets the regulations for this matter. I've played this game only a couple of times so far, so, I don't have too much insight upon the matter but from how I know the game plays, and having some experience in playing it, it would seem that you would fight these monsters in both stats.

I know the consensus here on the forms is what you said Velheart, but I'm asking for someone to come in here and show me the reason why. If possible, cite the rules as to why this is so.

Thanks for your patience guys! (I'm a Talisman newbie remember!) gui%C3%B1o.gif

The "rule" is that you fight them in the normal manner, or in whichever way the card tells you to, and it is explicit on the card. The Cerberus card says " You must choose whether to attack Cerberus using Strength or Craft ".

As above, you only pick one, though I must say, what you mention is an amazingly cool idea for a home brew or a future expansion's final boss.
