Anyone think its wierd that the Rogue squadron escort card is for the Ewing and not the xwing? For being the most renowned xwing squadron in existence? Just a thought I had.
Anyone else...
Yep.
And since 1.0 that the top E-wing pilot is one most associated with an X-wing ...
Yeah I’m still holding out for the X-Wing aces pack that introduces a Rogue Squadron title and all of the iconic Rogue Squadron pilots in X-Wings (Tycho, Corran, etc). It has to happen eventually.
Not too surprising- they had to give the E-wings some good named pilots and in the Legends canon Rogue Squadron was given some E-wings in the later years. There is a glut of possible X-wing pilots, so shifting some of the Legends Rogue pilots to E-wings wasn't a bad idea- after its initial tech problems the E-wing was as good/better than the X-wing.
I agree... they should completely get rid if the e-wing, as it is an eyesore.
Currently, while the e-wing is only canon tangently as a drawing in the Poe Dameron comic - and even then as a seemingly antique starfighter.
Currently, Rogue squadron, If I recall, was only just formed due to Luke disobeying orders.

Yes and no, mostly due to the fact that it had 2 generics so it made sense to more go with the two canon squadrons from the films being Blue Squadron and Red Squadron. If they were to release another generic I'd want it to be Rogue Squadron, but they seem to be trying to pull more from canon sources and Rogue Squadron outside of the Battle of Hoth isn't really much of a thing in new canon.

I definitely want to see Wes and Hobbie added to the X-Wing though if they gave us Blue and Green Leader, Antoc Merrick from Rogue One and Hera Syndulla from Rebels. At least we have Corran at the moment in some form, hopefully we will get Tycho again when the A-Wing is rereleased.

Maybe for you.
For me it is the best looking Rebel ship next to X-Wing - it looks like a proper starfighter, with "used up future" touch added to it - I would even go as far as saying that it epithomizes Star Wars esthetics.
I would prefer to see it on the table more often than such an ugly cartoonish puke like Attack Shuttle, VCX-100, Shadowcaster or Sabine's TIE Fighter - now, these ARE horrible looking ships.
Oh, and don't get me started on white painted First Order's TIEs - this ugly color scheme is the only thing stopping me from getting into First Order.

My only issue with the E-wing is the stupid location of the third cannon. Right over the cockpit is the dumbest place for a weapon- having it slung underneath the fuselage would have worked much better. Either that or just give it two side-mounted fuselage cannons to equal the weapons on the X-wing.
Totally agree with the Rebels ships, they are my least favorite of all. I have seen some decent paintjobs with them, so overall the actual design of the ships aren't terrible to me, just the paint jobs (and the Shadowcaster looking like a **** Star Trek ship).

To a certain degree I would agree - problem is that we should not search for any logic behind design of these ships.
One of the most iconic of them, TIE Fighter, is completely ridiculous when you look at it from design standpoint - those big panels completely shut down peripheral vision. This ship would never be acceptable as a dogfighter, and yet according to cannon it was the most common one.
I find the e-wing is radically improved by moving the engines above the wings and in against the fuselage.
Rounding the bottom of the nose a tad also helps.
Edit - example I found online.

I have a pair of E-wings, my second came missing the overhead cannon. It makes the ship look much nicer.

I bought one for the cards in 1.0, and ripped off the cannon and put it under the nose. It is much better- the overhead cannon just looks...strange where it is initially positioned.

Not to mention how big it is, something I didn't really think about until after picking one up from a used mini sale. Its notably bigger than the Falcon, which feels a bit weird for it. I don't mind the Rebels ships too much, and like the VCX, granted I think most of them look better in physical FFG form than they did on the show just with having more details on them.
My surgically corrected one. As for the model's size, the A-wing is a much bigger sinner.
E-wing is iconic for the New Republic in legend. Introduced at the time of Dark Empire Crisis, and after the second (third?) time NW lost Coruscant to Warlords and Imperials, it suffered of the innefficient way democracy runs the Military. The standard plot for the NWR proved a disaster in building ships unable ti replace the Mc 80a, turning at last on a redesign of ISD to cover the setbacks. The Ewing was an experiment to mix the best qualities of awing and xwing. They obtained a speediest craft, armed heavyly (with 1.5 the torpedoes load of an ex wing). Han Solo himself as a last gift to his generalship developed the main upper gun (equivalent in fire power to a single ship turbolaser, the heavyest gun every mounted on a starfighter). Hovever e-wing costed lots of credits, mainly because his r7 integrated astromech which was necessary to keep it together and not self desctruct as the orrible gig made of superpowered single elements. Only the finest pilots could make up to the challenge to master this beast and when dust settled down and New Republic was again seated in Coruscant the military asked for an improvement in more stable xwing lineage for unit-on-the-line. During Yuzhan Vong War, e-wing still was there as a bunch of old stuff in a general disaster for the military of the New Republic. The prophecy of weakness as per grand admiral Thrawn statement decades before provec true... the Reoublic fell for the inability of a democracy made of too many opposed point of view to come to a strong military doctrine and civilian governance. Only from the purge of this failure a more militant and well organized Galactic Alliance could do what was necessary to do. Fight back as the Empire would
