October 20th at St. Joseph's Society Hall in downtown San Antonio will be the first annual Texas Galactic Open, featuring Armada, X-Wing, Destiny and Legion. Concurrent tournaments featuring the lineup of FFG's Star Wars games, with the state's best players in attendance. Engraved trophies and more prizes for first place, prize giveaways when anyone could win, and a chance to meet with some of the coolest gamers around. Some of the tables we are planning to live stream, but how many tables will be limited on our equipment. More news on streams coming as we get closer to the event. Lots of photos and updates will be done live from the venue, so there will be many ways to follow the action as it unfolds.
There's a TON of prizes I'm giving away, including a box of Star Wars Rebellion (donated by Knight Watch Games), new X-Wing 2.0 products, alt art cards from Gold Squadron, acrylics, Windsor & Newton paint brushes and more. The 501st Legion, San Antonio's official Star Wars cosplay community, may even make an appearance.
This event is entirely about community - it is community organized, community operated and supported by our local gaming stores, the very backbone of our gaming communities. Knight Watch Games, Dragon's Lair, and Tabletop Generals are just a few of the stores who provided terrain for Legion, mats for all games and donated prize support. Community donations are being used to help defer the cost of the venue rental, allowing me to use personal funds to provide further prize support, drinks, food and other snacks (link below).
The format will be Standard (30 cards/30 pts) and will feature 6 Swiss Rounds with a top 8 cut. The Top 8 play in 3-round elimination rounds until a champion is crowned!
This event is not just limited to Texas residents, so if you're able to make the trip, we'd be happy to have you and see how you stack up against Texas' finest.
