Most people ran at least 4 ships, many 5, some 6 and one player went all in with a 7 TIE swarm (howlrunner and Iden). Put of 12 players, I think no one took 2 ships.
Anecdotally, are your launch tournaments seeing many swarms?
Bump. I heard @Brunas say they had 0/20 Howl swarms at their tournament today.
Not many swarms currently, just five bombers and Drea + 4 Marauders
Drea Marauders stole the show, followed by boba + koshka + cloaked gunner runner
We did not have any swarms at ours, but I did fly against 2 bomber barrage rockets lists. (I was the only rebel player)
In the release events here in San Jose, Ca., I've seen a couple 6 TIE swarms (Howl, Inferno Squad and another TIE) but the one that seems to be the most popular is the Scum swarm with Drea Renthal, 2 Jakku Gunrunners and 4 Binayre Pirates. Ran into it yesterday with my 4 Sigma Phantoms with Juke and lost on points 64 - 100 . I just couldn't kill enough of them before time ran out.
We had 8 players at our tournament today, 6 Rebel and 2 Imperial.
Only swarm was Howlrunner, 4 academies, and Turr. Other than that, I saw a lot of 3-4 ship lists including 4 ARCs (somebody flew Shara and Garven together, and two others had one ARC in their squad). It seemed like most of the games went to points with neither player scoring more than half of a list.
We had a 21 person tournament weekend after release.
Out of 21 people:
1 - 6 "named" tie swarm with Howl, Iden, Del Meeko, Syn, Wampa and an Academy
1 - 7 Tie with Howl, Iden and the being Academies
1 - Sloan whisper + 5 tie mini swarm
1 - Drea + 6 Z95 swarm
1 - 4x Saber squints + Barrage bomber "mini" swarm
--------------------------
Named Tie swarm took 2nd and lost to a Boba + Palob + 4lom list
4 x Saber + Barrage bomber tied for 3rd against a Boba + Guri list.
------------------------
So anecdotally....5+ tie lists are strong. But Boba is a good counter to them.

Did the Howl swarm play the Drea swarm? I’m curious how that turns up, based on the absurd amount of health on the Drea side.

Can't say as I've not seen the two together on one table.
zero at our SC/launch event of 20 people.
Edited by Tlfj200I think it's easy to forget how many ships you need to own and how difficult it can be to fly.
I was always sceptical about the idea that swarms would be everywhere.

Jeez that’s a lot more than I’m hearing from most places! Where are you?

Central, KY. We have a number of OG swarm players that wanted to re-live the glory days.

Second follow-up, what was the winning archetype of the day? Did the swarm take it home, get face-stomped by Boba, or another list altogether won the day?

Top 4 cut was -
1st seed - Boba + Guri
2nd - (Me) 4 x Crack Sabers + Barrage Gamma
3rd - Boba + Palob + 4Lom
4th - Swarm Howl, Crack Iden, Crack Del, Marksmanship Syn, Wampa, Academy
I got paired down to the Swarm list was the one I *DIDN'T* want to face. The archetype, PS skill (and importantly, the player) were not something I wanted to face. I got murdered. Had terrible engagements. Iden negated a dead Howl. The combination of blocking + swarm tactics (4 dice range 1 wampa backed by Howl shooting at i5....ouch) and just generally getting entirely outflown and it wasn't even really a match.
The 3 ship Boba list took out the 2 ship Boba list.
In the final, I watched 4lom get burned down by the 2nd round of combat. Palob ran for his life, and Boba just did Boba things and laughed at the swarm and proceeded to completely murder everything. Boba took down the swarm for the win. Not to discredit the guy who won, but he *rarely* plays in competitive events. He's been a Boba/Firespray fan forever and was ecstatic that it was not sucky in 2.0. He's been a scum pilot since the faction was released and is generally more of a casual player than anything competitive. The named swarm player is the best in the region and the only person to make day 2 cut with Kylo at worlds. He's good.
Boba is a one ship wrecking ball that don't give a **** about anything.
actually for me the most ships i saw was 4.
Probably because most of the players in my area are rebel/scum. I only saw 1 other imperial player that didnt ragequit 2.0 like a pansy (and later get talked back into it lol).
Nah i saw more X/Y combos than anything else. And Guri for scum, always Guri....
Any other conclusions drawn this far? Is the Tie Fighter swarm a thing or not in 2.0? I'm a bad flyer and tried flying 4. Went horribly bad. Anyone flying 4+ with any luck?
We had a 17 person 2nd edition tournament a few weeks ago. Howl + Iden + Academy swarm took first place. I was the only 4-0 in swiss with Fenn + 2 Skulls + Lando craft. I beat a Boba + Fenn + L3 list in round 4. Lost by less than 20 points to the same player in the cut. That player then lost to the swarm.
Swarms are strong and with the named pilot synergy you still get decent mods even if you screw up. Two dice can still put some hurt down against a lot of things, especially when you have 7 ships chucking that many dice. But I think Trajectory Simulator and just simply more interesting squad choices exist in extended keeping them suppressed.

I was surprised at how few people brought them to our 24 person tournament, but I also didn’t see a lot of anti-swarm tech either. Almost like people are just flying what they love...
Are you saying a person can't love flying TIE swarm. ?
But swarm is life ! You decide if you accept to lose sometimes ! Personally I enjoy them and will take one for a December tournament !
Of course several "Heavy Swarm" look good especially Bomber Tie with barrage rocket, less ship but more health !
Six TIE swarm with crackshot won a 27(ish?) person tournament (5 rounds and cut to top 4) just this weekend past, our way. It needed to beat out a 3 striker, 2 reaper Sloane swarm to get to top table. Top four the average number of ships was greater than 4. Lists are from memory, so might be forgetting some stuff.
- Howlrunner, Del Meeko, Iden, Scourge, two Black Sqdn aces - all with crackshot
- Four Sigma Aces with Juke
- Whisper (vader crew/juke/coldet), Echo (coldet, juke), Redline (advSens, proton torp)
- 3 Strikers, 2 Reapers, Sloane and who really knows?
TIE Fighter swarms aren't dead, but there are some tough customers out there gunning for them. There were several Fett lists out there in the field, not sure if it was dodged or 'cracked' to oblivion.
