Galatica Phantom Thoughts

By B-Rad1234, in UFS General Discussion

So another day and another super rare spoiled. Galatica Phantom is interesting, and while I say it's a pretty good card, it's still no Moonbeam Slicer or Shin Shoryuken. Let's examine:

Diff 7- Not too bad, and with Air/Chaos having Killik's/Hanzo's/Yumeji's support they should be able to pass it with ease. Good is a little lacking in the CC pumps, but it's not too difficult to check a 5 and commit two Destiny's.

Block +2Mid- Again not bad. It's no game breaker, but it's still fairly decent.

Speed 2Mid- 2.... 2 speed.... Why not just slap a "this will be block 90% of the time" tag on it? Those symbols aren't exactly ripe with speed pump foundations. Air/Good has Wind Dance, Raphael (who could abuse the crap out of this card) and Talim (again ABUSE) but Chaos only really has Promo Guy as decent speed support. Maybe Ralf will have some speed pump on him?

Damage 7- Decent. Ralf gets Powerfull 2, and Good has Fight or Flight. So kuddos on good damage.

The abilities are where this card pretty much shines. Fio I'm willing to wager will see a LOT more play because of this card. After she's stripped put her opponent's whole hand in their momentum, she can proceed to (for free) make it 15 damage. THAT'S INSANE!. Throw two of these at someone in a turn and that's lights out. Good may have a hard time making use of the ability, as their opponent will need 3 momentum, but then again... Good has Flight or Fight. So 14 damage is nothing to scoff at.

Control Check of 3 is great. It's good to see FFG putting DECENT control checks on good attacks. Heck who knows, maybe we'll see 3 CC's on actual good throws... Nah prolly not.

Overall I'll give this card a B+. The only reason it's not getting an A is because it's only really going to be truly utilized in a few characters (Talim, Guy, Fio, Raphael). It's got terrible speed, and one of it's abilities (the Good enhance) could potentially be somewhat hard to pull off. Needless to say though, when the air event rolls around next month... My deck just got another kill card :D

Cheers,

Brad

I'm actually kinda glad about the fact that it doesn't go in all too many decks - where it does it's really good, but not every character is going to be able to use it effectively. This is just how URs should be imo.

Well said.

The irony when seeing this card this morning is unreal. Last night I was playing my Talim:: deck (Fight Or Flight + Diving Wind Kick Throw for kill, trying to be a little bit different) and thought to myself that I'd really like a nice beefy attack thats mid with a mid block so as to work with Wind Dance and has lovely damage potential without having to have Fight Or Flight out. Then I see this and I smile a little inside :) Now I'm more intrigued than ever as to whats going to be in the rest of the set!

My god....This thing is so awesome i bleed cool whenever isee it.

As for speed bumps...yeah chaos has the best ones, Darkhunter of the night. You commit your character with it and it gets +6 speed and it huts you...like the real man's punch it should be...

whoever made this card i need your adress so i can send you my love and a christmas present

What exactly do the symbol E mean? Your character has to have that symbol? You have to commit a card with that symbol?

speed mid 2 you say... hmm your chaining off of chaos you say... how about you strike from the draw? your playing a 7 hand size character you say... now its 7 mid for 7 before any other enhances. Setsuka****'s support seems to fit this quite well, not only that, you block with a chaos/air air/good good/chaos air/good/chaos card, as a free response play it as a reversal, and if done right, your opponent might have thought it was safe to build their momentum planning for their next attack, before getting hit with it as a reversal. and with the AOP's being legal any character has the potential to throw it at +8-12 damage (one seal of bedlam on your side basically says have 4 free damage).

As for speed bumps...yeah chaos has the best ones, Darkhunter of the night. You commit your character with it and it gets +6 speed and it hurts you...like the real man's punch it should be...

Actually you would get +0 speed from commiting your character, you may commit your character as if it were a foundation for the cost but because your character is well a character and not a foundation you would get a speed bonus of 0. but fear not, strike from the draw nets you generally 6-7 speed since it is speed 2.

I would think that it is a shortened version of the {resource} character abilities that had come out in cutting edge/domination sortta how {to a minimum of 1} is now {minimum 1} for example.

The new Rapheal got a new toy ^_^

why did i trade away my only talim4?

Really? Well ****, last i checked you could do that with rare yang and have it be +6 speed since he would commit himself. Still its pretty rawr tastic even with minor speed bumps and honesty i hope ralf has all 3 of those symbols

Yang says 1 card in your staging area not 1 foundation...

why is there so much double posting?

Because people get impatient and keep hitting the publish button over, and over, and over again.

Plus, we can't delete our own posts or anything to fix the mistakes.

Back on topic: I kinda like Fire Kick more than this TBH. Sure, you can't just FALCON PUNCH people with no momentum investment, but Kick has +2spd, offzone, and has an amazing hand-replenishment making it a finisher with excellent utility value -- sorta like how Reppa+Personal Style is. I don't mind the 2cc too much, considering it also drops 1 difficulty and considering how many very-playable 0/1 drop foundations there are nowadays.
