Thought I didn't have to buy ships not in my faction

By bgrelle, in X-Wing

So what happened FFG? You were adamant about the idea that we would no longer have to buy expansion packs that weren't in our faction of choice just to get a card, and here we are wave one and already I have to buy Lando's Falcon if I want to have an Agile Gunner or Composure card for my Rebel squad. ?

Or just wait until the next Rebel release. They never said that they would release same day, just as soon as possible that makes sense.

They specifically said that you might have to wait a Wave or two. In basically the same breath. But if we’re getting a new wave every couple of months it can’t be that bad at all.

They will most likely come in a Wave 2 Rebel release. FFG never stated that all cards would be released on the same Wave, just that you will eventually be able to get all the cards without buying a separate faction. So unless you absolutely need a certain upgrade card right now, no you won't have to buy another faction's ships. Unlike 1.0, in which there were several "universal" upgrade cards that were only found in specific faction's ships, now there will be ships of every faction that will have it- it just may take a while. Its your choice now, buy another faction's ship to get the instant gratification, buy an upgrade card via eBay at inflated prices, or wait and just buy your faction's ship that contains the card you want. For the most part, I haven't seen any specific cards that are vital to a build that aren't available for all factions now.

I'd go so far as to say that most upgrade cards aren't worth equipping at all. Composure is okay on a support ship that might fail a jam or coordinate action from time to time. Agile gunner just seems too expensive right now to be worth equipping on anything.

Very true- most of the lists I'll be testing in the next few weeks are very bare compared to the upgrade-heavy lists of 1.0. I might have Marksmenship on Kimogilas just for the occasional boost for example, but I'm running my ships lean. Of the upgrades that have come in specific faction kits, 0-0-0 and BT-1 are probably the only ones I can see that will get a lot of use.

I'm not sure this isn't better for the game, honestly. Making upgrades so that they can help specific strategies but don't really help others means we have yet another trade-off, which I'm all in favor of.

Agile Gunner is excellent. With so few ways to get action economy, it's one of my go-tos in the bowtie gunner slot.

Isn't there a topic about the very same two cards already?

I only included Composure because it was pointed out to me by a buddy that it was a second card that only came in Lando's Falcon pack. I was trying to include the Agile Gunner on my Rebel Han Falcon flying alongside Luke. And being able to move the arc during the end phase was amazing for action economy. To say well it will be in a rebel pack someday just feels like a cop out for day one when they could have had these two cards included in the conversion kits, at least for the empire and rebels anyway. They are going to sell PLENTY of Lando's Falcons to scum players, they didn't need to do it this way right off the bat.

If there is another topic already I apologize. I didn't look past the first page of posts to see if there was one open already since I figured if there was it would be being discussed.

Well, Empire doesn't really need Agile at the moment, seeing as how we don't have any turret ships released yet.

FFG loves to recycle stuff and they will do so eventually.

Why do I have to buy a scum ship to get an upgrade for my Jedi star fighter!

My hope is that the pool for upgrade cards is generally much smaller. That essentially a lot of the cards in the expansions will be shared (not unlike Armada) and few ships will come with new cards. I'd hate to think we'd be back to the bloated 400 plus cards by the time 1.0 ships are fully converted over.

I didn't get Vader or Boba in my Rebel conversion kit. Booooooo!

You did get Moldy Crow, though, which the Scum player didn't.

You didn't get Maul, either! :)

I know. I think I will quit the game now.

It's 10 points for an effect you don't want to have to use. I found it to be too bloaty when building lists.

I have the entire 1.0 collection, but opted for S&V for now in 2.0. Not having the Moldy Crow title available putting my list together yesterday was disappointing. Not having the title for a ship that I've owned for 3+ years is feelsbadman.

"Palob Godalhi was the chief aide to Winfrid Dagore during the Galactic Civil War. He came into possession of the Moldy Crow when Dagore was captured by IG-72 and Dace Bonearm; though he later landed it in the Rebel ship New Hope, giving it to the Alliance for their missions. From there, the ship was requisitioned by Kyle Katarn. "
