Line of Sight Calculator thread

But do you really see right corner?

I thought it is blocked by the target itself.

Line of Sight:

  • A figure does not block line of sight to itself. The target figure also does not block line of sight.

Appendix I: Line of Sight Examples

  • A figure can trace line of sight through itself and through its target (7).

This, for me, changes the argument and I would now accept it in my game. It was the 'blocking item in the middle of your cone of fire' that I didn't like; this however, is clearly fine.

You might not like that the original LoS tracing is also legal, but it is.

If your player suggested it is correct and you said its not, you would be wrong. (technically)

That said, you're welcome to house rule however you wish.

Absolutely. My point was how we would houserule it in my group. I agree that it is technically legal, which is why I made the comment in the first place :)

First features update to the app! You can now view all tiles visible to attacker, all tiles which can see the defender, and tiles which belong to both groups. There's also a clear button, so you can start fresh on a map.

This is great for map analysis! Thanks!

You're welcome! Glad this can help!

Awesome improvement. Took me a minute to work out you can have the attacker and defender in the same square (useful for "what can I see and what can see me" analysis) but with that understood it works really nicely.

Just fixed the issue of being able to draw line of sight around walls/edges. The app should now account for this.

Glad you're finding it useful @Bitterman ! I'm open to suggestions if you see where it could be improved.

Thanks.

This case is an bug or not ? :

@EnderWilfrid Originally not a bug, but the rules were updated to make this situation illegal. I have updated the app. Funny enough, this attacker still has line of sight from a different angle (but not longer around the terrain)!

Any chance of flipping the Lothal Wastes map to match Vassal?

Can't do it tonight, but yes. I will try to do it soon.

Updated to use map from the Imperial Assault Skirmish Map Project since it was available. I had to regenerate the map - I wound up with one small difference, but I'm not seeing any faults in the map.

It was interesting - their promo map (original), Skirmish Map Project, and Vassal all have different orientations for this map. Being able to rotate the map has been a consideration since I started this project. Is this something people would want?

That would be useful for people playing on the tabletop too.

also just FYI, the vassal map is oriented with the deployment zones on the left and right and the spire on the bottom.

I will consider rotating the map my top priority after finishing core campaign maps.

Main story line missions have been added for Core Campaign. Working on side missions. I decided to put out the maps I had without prettying them up (some are). The map images will be updated later and it's functional in the meantime :)

Recently started playing IA and this tool is a godsend. My players and I immediately misunderstood and misapplied the LOS rules.

We’re using the “app” for the campaign that automates the imperial player for the campaign. Any chance you could update to include the maps from that campaign / jabba’s World?

Hey! The LoS rules are simple in nature, but tricky situations come up quickly!

I can add the maps from Jabbas realm next. It makes sense, since I imagine a good number of players are using the app.

I'm glad you find it helpful!

The official and free Legends of the Alliance app? I don't think Imperial Directive has Jabba's Realm yet.

The maps are different than in the "regular" Jabba's Realm campaign (in the campaign book).

I didn't realize that the Jabba's Realm in the app actually used different maps. It's easiest to create maps for my line of sight calculator that exist inside vassal or the skirmish project.

Hi! I found a legal spot in the aftermath map which isn't shown as so in the line of sight calculator. Note this also happens with the two spaces just on the right (and a missing condition with the space on the left).

Thanks for reporting this. I'll take a look into why this is happening.

Edit - For the left & top edges, I think the center line thinks it's crossing the final edge, which it isn't. For the right edge, I'll definitely need to investiagte.

Hi. Think I found another strange illegal Los here. If defender goes 1 space down the Los is ok. Imho the attacker sees the left corners. If it can help improving. Your app became my "tool for the job" ;)

Yes, there's line of sight to the left corners.

Hey guys. I'm sorry I've been super busy with family over the holidays. There definitely should be line of sight in the picture you just posted.

I think the issue is stemming from the update to check for walls in between line of sight for our 2 corners.

With the holidays over I should finally have some time to look into this.

Thank you for posting and sharing this bug!
