My take on Vaders Cymoons

By Coldhands, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I had a lot of fun playing this list. Sort of thematic as well, strikes fear into opponents hearts when they check the list. Who dont realise and respect the firepower will perish in a single turn. Earned 7th place at UK nationals, and 3rd at a smaller tourney. Not especially after ideas or criticism, just wanted to share with you, maybe it can inspire someone to make a better version.

Strengths:

- unparalelled long range firepower, in terms of dice numbers, Ackbars Defiance can put out more, but it won't have the consistant firepower

- can destroy ships in a single salvo with a snap of a finger at long range( flotillas, small ships)

- killing large ships in one turn

- mobility

- no reliance on Avenger, its just cherry on a pie(but its preferred to activate Devastator first)

-strong flak

Weaknesses:

-long learning curve to use it to maximum potential

-no squadrons

-first-last brawler lists will usually win against this list

Points: 399/400

Commander: Darth Vader

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Solar Corona

Holy red dice Batman!

I seen a guy that ran double Cymoons and wished I could've played against him.

Played 2 matches against ISDII ISDK combos... I didn't think an ISDI could be destroyed in a single round.

Kuats give me nightmares.

Starting with devastator, 2 acc spent on redirects, intel on brace. Damage is usually between 11-6. Brace it or not. Ecm one redirect or not... By the time avenger comes, the ship either down to few hulls or no brace, a red redirect and a green. All you need is a single acc, the second is rerolled fishing for damage(unless the brace is there). You lock the green token, use title for the other. Results usually a dead large ship.

It made me second during the swiss. For time reasons my opponent conceded the final. He brought another double ISD (Cymoon+BTAvenger) with two gozantis so I was slighly confident about my chances being able to block BTAvenger with Supressor and the other Gozanti and blow up stuff from long range but we won't know.

Here's mine. If there's one word I could use to describe this fleet, it would be "confusion." Vader has left the bridge to handle matters personally. Sloane and the assorted carrier upgrades and objectives put the persistent, nagging fear of squadrons in my opponent's mind even before deployment without forcing me to spend points on fighters. Enhanced Armament is for Ackbar slashes, which are as unexpected as they are deadly. The Seventh Fleet title and TRCs draw the attention of a rival Darth Vader boarding team. Even as my movements are unpredictable, Isard makes my opponent's plan clear. All I can say is, there's going to be some disappointment at my next regional.

@The Jabbawookie whats your purpose with such a troll comment?

Edited by Coldhands

Honestly, just for fun. I hope you’re not implying my fleet isn’t competitive, though; we might need to have a battle for Cymoon supremacy.

Nice to see you doing well with this list @Coldhands I love playing with the Vader/Devastator/Avenger combo, so much fun. Coincidentally I actually played an almost exact copy of your Devastator build in Cardiff yesterday.

Here's my version:

Faction: Galactic Empire
Points: 391/400

Commander: Darth Vader

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Capture the VIP
Navigation Objective: Solar Corona

[ flagship ] Imperial Star Destroyer Cymoon 1 Refit (112 points)
- Darth Vader ( 36 points)
- Devastator ( 10 points)
- Intel Officer ( 7 points)
- Gunnery Team ( 7 points)
- Quad Turbolaser Cannons ( 10 points)
- Spinal Armament ( 9 points)
= 191 total ship cost

Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer (110 points)
- Avenger ( 5 points)
- Strategic Adviser ( 4 points)
- Boarding Troopers ( 3 points)
= 122 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
- Comms Net ( 2 points)
= 25 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
= 23 total ship cost

1 Ciena Ree ( 17 points)
1 Valen Rudor ( 13 points)
= 30 total squadron cost

I decided to go for a bid to try and get first last against most lists. I use Vader/IO to power up Devastator, or if going against ECM targets I use IO 'normally' - it's quite a swingy list I find as if things go well you get a 10-1 but if you make a mistake or have some poor luck it does tend to get tabled as Devastator has no defense at all.

Been tempted to drop Devastator and IO, put on Tua/ECM then either have a bigger bid or a few more upgrades.

Problem is, I just love throwing all the dice!

I went 1-10, got a bye, then 10-1 for 4th place (out of 11) but both games could easily have been different right up until the end.

[NB I sure you know but with the Devastator build we have it is theoretically possible to one shot a full health ISD at long range if it has no ECM - 5 red, plus one for CF, plus one for Spinal, plus 4 blue from a fully powered Devastator. Roll a red accuracy, say 3 double hits and all the blues on hits. Add in a red acc with QTC, reroll it and any non-double hits reds and get double hits on all of them. Total: 1 acc, 7 doubles and 4 blue hits for 18 damage. Acc the brace and they can redirect 3 taking 4 on the front and 11 hull damage. Odds are pretty long I know!]
