"a little to be desired"??? Understatement. Gross understatement.
Otherwise, good review.

Yeah, the box did not survive my trip back from Indianapolis, but I have had MANY game boxes over the years. I judged it by the commonality of the industry, not the quality of product that FFG should be producing as a AAA gaming studio.
It doesn't even rise to the quality TSR, WEG, Mayfair, and FGU had with their folded-together 150# stock two-piece boxes. Those folded sides were surprisingly durable.
Looking at my 20 year old l5r 1st edition box sets still sitting on my shelf... This new box is garbage lol but I was glad to get the group back together, and I like the narrative system. I just hope the techniques don't undo all of that, overloading the game with stacks of index cards of abilities...

To be fair, I've used index cards for abilities in 3e and 4e, and other systems as well. Maybe I just don't memorize techniques well enough, but I like having the card on-hand rather than flipping through books.

I have a couple gimp templates I use to build playing card images or abilities or items for my players when I GM games, for example, my 7th Sea games. I included a sample here. I will be doing the same for this game. I agree, having cards for techniques, personalities, spells, etc makes it easier, especially for newer players.
The second City box set had technique cards and stance cards for 4e. They were great! If 5e wasn't just around the corner I would try and find another copy.

Agasha Max: "Beat it, or I'll call the brute squad!"
Hida Fessik: "I'm on the brute squad."
Max: "You ARE the brute squad!"
But really, gimp is awesome, and I like the template!
