Norra: advanced proton torps or proton bombs?

By Roller of blanks, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My current list involves a norra with R4 astro and ion cannon turret. I only have room for either advanced proton torps or proton bombs.

Which is better for her?

My gut says bombs of some kind are better (maybe Prox Mines would be good, too). Norra loves to get into close range, but I don't think APT helps here get there, and it makes it so that any enemies will try a lot harder to get where they'll be more than Range 1 from her. With Bombs, you can control space behind you better, discourage enemies from just flying too far to fast behind you.

I agree with bitterfig. Even if you don't drop the bomb, just potential bomb damage discourages a K-turn the would put someone behind you...... as well as chasing you. If you had points for a proton torpedo, I think I could make a better argument, but the range restriction of apt discourages range 1 combat even more than before.

For that matter, so does VTG double taps.

I had a list where I decked out 2 y wings with APT and seismics, one of which being norra, and I found APT to be huge. Norra is the 1 y wing that excells in particular at knife fighting (and really wants to be), seismics can get in the way of that. I preferred APT (and seismics but thats not happening here) just because AP allows the Y wing to consistently punch above its weight. You can reload if you make it to the late rounds, and having that 5 dice attack from your ship thats generally used to doing one from Ion can be huge. Being able to ion and then move in for the kill is huge too because they can no longer barrel roll after an Ion. Do what you will though both are very good options now so you can't really go wrong. Just depends on what you hope to be doing with Norra.

Best,
