Thanks for all you do

As someone who has never used vassal, what does this platform offer over TTS?

Players.

Also visual simplicity which is hugely important to me. I personally dont like virtual xwing with 3d models even when switching to top down and removing gui layers its way to busy.

It's free.

It's now tied to outside sources of game data, art assets, suggested builders that evolve on their own due to the community efforts and gets updated in real time without needing to download new versions. It also now can react within seconds of getting a IP infringement letter and making autospawning produce artless cards for everyone without even needing a to log back in. It has automatic range calculations for all types of arc while taking into account obstructions from rocks and debris.

It has an established league (which is a real piece of work and not trivial to achieve at all, backed by online software) that was 353 player strong early this year for its 6th season.

Thank you. Are there any tutorials for vassal noobs that you would recommend?

There is the guide I made an edition ago at http://xwvassal.info/guide (the root of that website brings you more resources and also acts as an hub for the league) . It should hold up well for the most part for 2nd edition but there is a need for a specific new guide.

another novelty:

I watched someone play with gunboats with ion cannons. I forgot to make those upgrades spawn ion tokens when the list is spawning. Within seconds, I added that card and a few others to a list somewhere on the web and now, those cards will spawn those tokens. For everyone using 8.2.0. Without forcing them to update their module. Without needing them to log out and log back in. (before this release, I had to hard code these things somewhere)

Also no awkward physics (not a fan of TTSs engine). VASSAL is the most precise way to play this game.

Yeah !!!

Thanks a lot for all the work you put into this.

Is there a workaround to avoid all the networking stuff? I can run the new module at home, but at work, where I like to play around offline during lunch, the new module crashes consistently. I assume it's because of all the queries that have to go online, which my work blocks.

I was afraid it would do that. You're the first one to ask for it and I did prep for offline mode but I just didn't get around to systematically look for local files when the net connections time out. I do have an example code somewhere where this is applied and I'll be able to spread it around. Soon(ish)

I had the multi hull breach bug again, on my opponent this time. I think it's the first time HB is drawn off a deck and flipped maybe?

I'm not sure how to repeat it but I've definitely seen it multiple times now.

E: no I've messed around a couple of times and not found any way to repeat it reliably :(

Anyone on this forum who doesn’t play on Vassal needs to give it a hard look. It’s AMAZING! The only downside is that you miss out on the social dynamics of being together with your friends, but for folks who can’t get out of the house to play as much as you’d like, Vassal is your fix.

We'll get it next time, gadget!

New to vassal here. I got everything up and running for both campaign and skirmish, but is there a way to control multiple hands from the same computer? I can have cards out in the map window, but I lose all of the "deck" functions.

Make sure to join as the “solitaire” player instead of player 1, 2 etc if you are playing on your own.

Hope that helps!
