I Need Mrs. Rick to Beat Me....

I respect Mrs. Rick too much to not give her my best game when we play.

Unfortunately, that resulted in me beating her a lot over the last couple of months. I'm not a very good X-Wing player, but I guess I just got good against her - which is weird because in the three tournaments that she's gone to with me she's finished higher than me, and in one case she finished 3rd out of about 35 people.

Sadly, with the repeated beatings I had been giving her she gave up on 1.0 and said she didn't want to play again until 2.0 came out.

So, she needs to beat me to cheer her up a little with 2.0. Also, I have a list that I really like, and I want to throw it against the hardest thing I can so I can get better as well.

THIS is my list, can you provide me with a strong counter to it? Thanks!

Yeah... Heavy swarm lists should be good against yours. Barrage Rocket Bombers are easy to fly, easy to choose actions on. Low stress, and now cheap enough to slot a pocket ace or two named TIE Fighter pilots in. Bombers will also survive Vynder's alpha without much issue.

Otherwise I think strong lists against yours will be things like Khiraxz Fighters, X-Wings, TIE Swarm. Allow her to have a lot of concentrated firepower and if she's flying well, she'll eat those three for lunch.

Simple, lots of HP, covers a lot of arcs. Can try with Sabine docked at the get-go or detached.

You'd be surprised how often this happens against regular opponents; you learn to play them rather than their lists. You learn how they think, how they'll react in certain situations, and you capitalise on it. Perhaps in 2.0 play the Escalation game mode for a bit as that seems a bit friendlier to start with?

She's pretty good at 3BQD from 1.0. My first thought was something like 3 50 point Nus with Proton Torps and all the trimmings, and Col Jendon.

She hates Kihraxzs. Actually, no, she laughs at them because I've tried to fly them so many times and failed miserably (TBC, why?). So, no way she's going to fly them. Also, no way she's flying anything that only throws 2 red dice. She LOVES lots of red dice.

Dallas Parker from the Mynock Squadron Podcast reported in one the most recent episodes that he's currently running 5 Alpha Sq Pilots (Interceptors) + Wampa. It's swarmy, has a lot of dice and has a lot of options. Wampa has a situational 3 Dice attack, so that could potentially satisfy some of her preferences.

If you don't have enough Interceptors, Planetary Sentinels can be swapped in at the same cost.

I did just come up with this list. One may get a headache flying it, though.

Everyone has at least 3 attack dice, it's reasonable (because who has 5 TIE Interceptors?), a should be nasty squirrelly. Sloane also punishes those who attack ships before Echo, but the other 4 ships will get to anyone trying to target Echo. This might be the first thing I throw on the table...

If she dont like swarms, then just out ps your aces. Vynder has a hard time with higher ps aces. Rex with juke soontir with predator and palp shuttle.

Weeeeeeellll.... I really appreciate everyone suggestions here, but she's not much of the arc-dodging re-positioning type. She's move of the punch-you-in-the-face-1-straight-to-victory, unless she's flying a GUNBOAT of course.

You also pick up on visual an tonal ques. I refuse to play any game against my wife for that reason. We read each other too easily. Now co-op for us is fair game. :)

That screams swarm to me. She just needs to learn the basics and will crush you.

My SO learned to fly 5 strikers in 1.0 and never wanted anything else after. And she placed always better than me in every **** tournament ;)

5 Predator Black Squadron Scouts? 200 even with each getting a single red die reroll if she can line up the bullseye arc.

I'm gonna be lazy and pick squads from sotl's blog:

Scum swarm (Drea with dorsal, two quads and four Zs) has plenty of red dice as well as tractor beams to mess you up. You could drop a Z and a quad for moldy crow torkil which improves that swarm against your squad. You then have 8pts to play with (dead man's switch, upgrade Z to a quad, 000... whatever you like).

If she absolutely won't fly ships that have less than 3 reds each, try Fenn, 4-Lom, Kavil. It's got red dice for days and tons of control between 4-Lom and Kavil. She should comfortably be able to tag and bag either of your aces with Kavil and Fenn, while 4-Lom just causes absolute havoc for any of your ships that get near.

I was going to suggest a boba list (fenn, recruit, and Boba with dampeners, marauder, 000) but I think close-quarters combat is just better, especially as you only have 3 ships.

I would maybe stick to threat builds? Very easy to be overpowered there since the balancing is approximated.

Otherwise, your list seems pretty weak against high ship counts and lots of red dice/activations. My knee-jerk response would be XXXXZeb. 15 red dice and 28 hp to chew through. 0-0-0 and jam can only remove so many tokens.
