Dry brushed Stormtroopers

By Pooleman, in Painting

A friend commissioned me to paint iscstorm Troopers. He already primed them black which I thought would be an issue. A did some dry brushing and LOVE the results. It took 1 hour. I just need to paint a few backpacks and holsters and I think I’m done. SGuMYOh.jpg oX1I8rA.jpg r0MqAZ8.jpg CfFTwoK.jpg kEyt9Lu.jpg

Thanks man. I don’t want to give these back to the guy.

This makes me want to redo my Stormtroopers.

I did these 2 squads in fewer than 2 hours.

I'll use this method for future troopers. I don't really want to strip mine and start over, especially with the already based. My four squads took forever and they don't look nearly that good; I really started hating them by the time I finished. I might try this for scout troopers.

Very nice results. Solid look with minimal detail.

When painting my Stormtroopers that is exactly how I do it, minus the black primer. I start with a white dry brush on all 7 troopers in an assembly line. By the time I finish trooper #7 trooper #1 is ready for the next coat. I do about 3 to 4 dry brush passes and it gives it a solid base and then I begin detailing them. Check out my thread to see what look I achieve doing it that way.

I’m happy to paint them for you. $20 a squad.

I already had painted mine. But i went back over whatever ones didn’t have arms in the way and dry brushed white. They look a lot better

...nice werk!.....dry brush?.....I would enjoy to lead this squad of troopers....

I do love drybrushing. People put it on a pedestal and act like ti's too hard, it's really not hard at all. What is this? Black primer, grey drybrush, white drybrush x2? Then picking out things like orange shoulderpads at the end?

A black or off-black glaze or wash over the guns will probably be the fastest way to fix the extra white that got all over some of them.

I’m still going to paint the guns, holsters, etc.

That makes more sense then.

I really liked the makeup brush recommended by Teri L. for drybrushing. E.L.F. brand facial contour brush. Cheaper than miniatures branded brushes, you can get them at drugstores. Usually I just use stuff from the (canvas) painters aisle at bigbox craft stores, which also works well.
