Vader Jank

By The Jabbawookie, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Playing around with non-Avenger BTs. Basically it's a one-shot mini Intel Officer, which is all a Raider generally needs. Vader to free up the weapons team slot, EF! to compensate for the Raiders not having a nav token, Avenger + XI7s to capitalize on spent braces. Since the Raiders need to get in close and can't fix their flak, a bomber list may just shred this. Thoughts?

It looks fun!

Salvage Run might be a good blue objective for you, those dust fields will keep Raiders safe, and make the opponent come to you or give up 80 points.

Looks pretty fun!

Squads completely ruin your day, however. I mean raiders vs unopposed squads. Not pretty.

But: I could play this and have a very good time. It would not be boring and it would be good enough to get some wins.

Herm... at first thought, I thought this was kind of completely stupid. But now that I'm thinking on it more, I might have to give a BT-raider a try. As you said, it's basically a 1 time IO for the cost of OEs, but that's what Vader is for. I don't know though if getting 3 is the best way about doing it... I could see something like this working potentially better.

Raider I w/ BT, ExRacks x2

Cymoon w/ Vader, Spinals, GT

Cymoon w/ Spinals, GT, Avenger

397/400

Not sure on the objectives, but you give up activations (and a player 1 bid) for a second ISD. I doubt either way is competitive, but I'm curious to try out both 2 and 3 BT Raiders now... and I'm not just saying that because I want an excuse to buy a 3rd (and 4th...) Raider.

Necroooo!

Tried a game against a dual Kuat Interdictor fortress. I went first and chose his Advanced Gunnery, then went whaling. Killed the objective ship and Interdictor, lost two Raiders and a Gozanti for a 9-2 win.

Anyway: Krennic will likely replace Tua for the ability to resolve a token and dial (the second comms net gozanti) to reroll everything twice with Krennic and Vader, then reroll two dice with Krennic, then one more die gets a reroll from the token. Beautiful, disgusting dice manipulation overkill.

Also Palpatine, new Vader and red dice manipulation have me thinking about a higher risk, higher reward list. The hard part is obviously keeping Vader in range.

I love this. Only thing might be to add in a 1 time use officer to get more effect because you know sfo is useless if Vader dies or if you get out of range. I would also make that gozanti a jerk gozanti to keep it Alive while it stays closer to the fight. Idk I guess it just seems a bit hard to keep all those raiders together without them being super pop able. You also might be better off with another commander as you already have defense tokens taken care of. Maybe thrawn?

Edit: oops you mentioned how hard it would be to keep Vader in range

While not overly flashy, Thrawn would definitely be nice to have Nav + CF. I'm also considering a finicky version with Ozzel and Pryce on an ISD-2, for a bulkier flagship that ideally can force them into medium range after a Raider hit before firing twice with last/first. Shelling out a few points for officers that can be useful in case Vader dies is a great idea, and so is the jerk Gozanti. I'd probably go one path or the other because they're at cross purposes and initiative matters.

Honestly it's hard to beat Vader as a commander; anything else, Palpatine included, feels a bit like it's for kicks.

Completely agree rerolls are much better suited for this list

Kind of feel like you would do well to mix a OP Dcap Raider II in there for mixed ranges of delivery platforms.

@Darth Sanguis

This is some serious necro, but it is possible to fit an ISD-2 into the list (previously a Cymoon was required for its fleet command and open title, which enables Entrapment Formation for the nav token-less Raiders.). However, Veteran Captain can be resolved immediately after Boarding Troopers. Worth it? Maybe.
