Wheres Epic?

By Vontoothskie, in X-Wing

Epic is coming. We know this. That's all we know.

It's probably worth mentioning at this point that I suspect Epic is getting about as much attention as FFG feels it justifies. The harsh reality is that I don't think Epic is very popular at all and FFG are giving it attention in line with its popularity. Pretty much every player I know only bought the Epic ships for the non-Epic upgrade cards.

Would be a shame if accurate. Played Team Epic at the last two European Championships and had an amazing time.

Standard format will always be the clear winner when it comes to organised play events, but Team Epic is an incredible amount of fun.

I think it will at least be 2019 before we get anything. FFG will release all current faction conversion kits before Epic. Before prequel stuff? Unknown. I think either before or right after.

That was my initial timeline. Not at all worried. We just finished an epic send off for 1.0 last night, and we're not at all worried about the 2.0 release schedule. Curious, certainly. Hopeful that they work out a better balance, definitely. Worried about our next game? Nope. We'll improvise something at the store so we can put the big ships down again sometime.

Well, I think that is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

FFG has never really done much to support Epic as a play mode. As you pointed out, it has always been used as a mode to fix a starfighter or issue a "big gun" card.

There are almost never any news articles that discuss Epic play, and if you can play Epic for prizes, I am unaware. Have they ever issued an Alt Art for a Huge ship?? Acrylic energy tokens as prizes??

Who is the World Champion of Epic play??

Wouldn't it be great if players from around the world came together in teams to play epic? I mean, team play should be an even better way to build community than everyone-for-oneself.

Think Epic is more popular than it is given credit for. But since FFG does nothing to advertise it as a game mode, doesn't do much to support it than drop a ship about once a year, and doesn't give players the chance to be recognized for playing Epic, it remains a kitchen table game or a convention side event.

2.0 isn’t even out yet. There has barely been anything formally announced for it yet.

Theyve plainly stated that all first edition expansions will be playable in 2.0, and that all ships will be reprinted in 2.0 format. Theyve also announced the 4 new factions. Not counting epic, ace packs, dice packs, dials, and mats, or unkown content, thats still 60+ expansions.

All of that has been announced, its just waves and release dates + future content that remains uncertain

The info hasn't changed since the last time you complained about it. They're working on it, it will take some time, the relaunch of the real game (aka, the only mode anybody ever played) takes priority. Hopefully they'll do something interesting with it as 1.0 epic was just a way of charging a ton of money for standard play ship fixes.

Ha, your preference idnt objective dude. i dont personally know a single person who plays 100/6 regularly, as the "real game" in my scene is homebrew, epic, and HOTAC

... Are you deliberately trying to rile up the epic fans?

Maybe? Like What does that even mean?

Im voicing concern about my favorite format currently being unplayable in the hope others with the same concern also talk about it and prompt answers from FFG. Im not converting until 2.0 looks like a game worth the cost, and right now without epic theres little incentive over 1.0 as I play homebrew and Epic and dony care at all for the tourney format

That post was directed specifically to the individual I quoted, not you. Sorry for any confusion.

It's the second track on "The Real Thing" album.

You're welcome.
