Saving startin xp

By yindaka, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I couldn't find it though I'm 60% sure I read something in the corebook, but is it possible to save starting xp and keep it for after the first session?

I don't think it says you can't, and you might end up not having something you really want to spend that last 5 or 10 xp on at CHARGEN. Of course they can only spend xp to directly raise stats at CHARGEN so not spending any would be really stupid.

You can. But as mentioned since this is the only way to raise your stats with XP it would be kinda dumb to waste the opportunity.

Assuming this is a small amount of XP (cause of the whole Characteristics thing) seems to me like the game is kind of built on saving XP.

In short you can save some of your starting XP to spend later but I don't see that as being a good idea.

What if you spend like 70 XP on characteristics and buy a couple of talents, leaving you with 5 XP and the only thing you want is a 10 or 15 XP talent? I could see there being good reason in saving the XP.

Some species/characteristic builds will leave you with some XP that cannot be spent on characteristics.

But there are always skills and talents to purchase, so I always manage to spend all mine.

I can see leaving some unspent XP if buying into a second spec is an early goal.

I agree after you've raised what stats you can and allocated you're starting Skills, if you've got a Skill you could double up on starting out, and you know you're goig to get 20ish xp after session, hanging onto 15 and popping that Skill to rank 4 is smart.

That was the idea, saving 10 to 15 xp to pop mechanics or computer to potentially rank 4 after the first session. Going out of 20ish xp for the session.

That's pretty typical depending on selections at CHAGEN. Sometimes there's a nice even number for bumping stats, sometimes not. Not all Talent trees are equal, some have great 5xp rows where it's easy to spend 10 or 15, some not so much.

It's allowed, but if you can bring a Characteristic up a level then you 100% should do that instead for a long-term campaign. Short campaigns and one-shots it would be ok though.

Obviously play to taste so if you really need that 20 XP talent ASAP then ok, but if you can wait a little while then upping the characteristics will be better long term.
