MC75 Sheild Shredder and Company

By schmidty1701, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Alright, I had some crazy Ackbar lists a couple days ago, but now back to a serious fleet. I've been struggling to make a fleet I like with the MC75 and Hammerheads.

Should I dump the QLTs and get Tycho? I know the HHs only have one black in the front, so getting crits for APTs will be a little difficult (aside from Concentrates). I could put APTs on the MC75, but I wanted to try the HIE/ACM combo, with XX-9s if ACMs hit the hull, so I can activate Dodanna. The squadron complement speaks for itself. The reason for QLTs is to give my ships slightly better odds against squadrons, but I'm wondering if putting in Tycho wouldn't just be a better move.

Thoughts?

I don't think the Quad Lasers are worth it. The only thing you scare with them are Tie fighters. Its only a blue die and you don't have Toryn for rerolls. Drop them and go for 4 yt-2400 or Shara, Tycho and 2 A wings if you prefer that. But 4 yt-2400 worked for me so far. (They even stop Sloane aces for some time)

APT are a way too big investment for Hammerheads because you only roll one black die. Maybe put them on there with Ordnance Experts when you play Sato, otherwise it's not worth it.

The Mc75 looks like fun. But I'm not quite sure how it works. So you attack a ship at close range and roll your dice. Say you roll one crit on a black die for ACM and one on the blue for HIE. And then you need ANOTHER crit on any dice to trigger XX-9 or it triggers because you already have two crits? Anyways you don't have rerolls and only two black dice in the front so you won't trigger all the effects consistently.

Swap Repair Crews for Comms Net and drop Bright hope on the GR-75. Your ships shouldn't take too much beating because they are rather squishy. (Even the MC75) If your opponent concentrates his fire on one of your Ships it's most likely dead after at most two rounds. Repair Crews won't save them and you don't need Bright Hope because nobody is going to really attack your Gr-75.

I hope I could help you a little bit but Mc75s and Hammerheads are cool ships and you should definitely play with them and look what works for you!

As Schattenlord said, you're investing 20 points in QLTs. Unless you're certain to face only max squads lists, that's heavy investment for an upgrade that you might not even get to use. Shara, Tycho + 2 A-Wings is plenty enough to be a speed bump to most squadrons. You likely won't win the squadron game with them, but that wouldn't be your goal. Tycho's Evade gives him a lot more survivability over a regular A-Wing. I think he's worth it, but then again, I fly those squadrons with almost any list I build. If you're really worried about squadrons, you can also use slicer tools as extra help. It's not always a game changer, but it can heavily mess with your opponent.

Your Hammerheads have TFO, so at least there's that. It won't always hit, but if you concentrate constantly, you'll get 2 blacks to reroll. Or by dropping QLTs you can just fit OE, but then I would probably go ExRacks. I don't think there's an inherent problem with APT Hammerheads, though realistically, they'll only deliver 1 or 2 faceup damage cards. Make sure you have a Concentrate Fire token on the delivery turn to give you better odds.

The biggest problem is that you have no rerolls on your MC75. You can't fix your reds, you can't fish for blue crits and you can't reliably get black crits. Which means you have 24 points (FCT, ACM, HIE, XX-9) that are a high-risk investment. Your 2 options are Leading Shots or Ordnance Expert, but one goes against the Shield Shredder theme and the other isn't the best investment on a ships that effectively only has 2 blacks (kind of like the Hammerheads above). I'm not sure MC75 are super well-suited to HIE. You might even be better served with a couple CR90Bs instead of the Hammerheads and maybe Garel's Honor.

Though, to be honest, this is an interesting base and you should test to see how much trouble you run into with your lack of rerolls.
