3D Printing “Useful” Things

By lukecook, in Star Wars: Legion

So I’ve got a 3D printer, and have been printing out terrain a ton! Got the addiction...

Im wondering what people have been printing that serve a “use” other than terrain. I.E. unit trays and things like that. I’ve seen firing arcs so that you don’t have to worry about covering the base of units with scenery, which is pretty neat.

Anyways please share your creations or ideas for something that would be useful game-wise to print. I’ve seen some cool stuff on thingiverse that I plan on making. I’ll show off the terrain I’ve done once it’s finalized. Cheers

It would be pretty easy to design unit trays in the fashion of the wooden ones with the base slots on top. Same for replacement range rulers in whatever lengths you might want.

I made a bunch of replacement rulers for Armada because I find them more effective than always using the full-length one.

You could print off plastic replacements for the tokens.

Storage / transport bins for units and some of them double as Terrain with the outside of the box done to look like structures.

Yeah, I was thinking of creating a nice storage bin/ making an organizer to put in the Star Wars lunch box I currently use.

Thanks for the ideas.

Wow, I did not see that one with all the tokens and dice so neatly organized. I'll have to print that. Looks like an easy one to do too as far as printing goes. That is a great idea doubling both for storage and terrain!

The terrain part came as an accident actually. I had my generic ones for a game and we were short terrain. The next thing i did was make designs so they wouldn't look plain on the table.

Those are very cool. Not something I have a use for, but clever and neat.

As I've noted elsewhere, these sound like a neat tool for casual gaming, but if you plan to play in tournaments you're better off marking the sides of the base with paint/cutting or somehow somewhat blending the marking into the terrain to indicate the firing arcs. Per the official tournament rules, the bases must intrinsically indicate firing arcs.

Honestly Warmahordes players have been marking arcs on their base edges for years, and you can do some neat designs that match the colors of your army/basing. Just my $0.02 for anyone with even a slight interest in tourney play.
