New Player - Potential fleet builds

By Cap116, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi everyone,

Im very new to Armada, and am looking into different fleet design archetypes, and was looking for some collective feedback and thoughts on the theoretical fleets. Im really only looking at Rebels right now, but might expand into Imperial builds in the future. I have started to read CGYSO, The Overnight Reports (from the new tournaments) and some of Crabbok's vidoes, but am now jumping in to designs.

The first fleet is a bomber Ace build using Rieekan:

Name: Rieekan's Bombers
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Rieekan

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Solar Corona

Pelta Command Ship (60)
• Fighter Coordination Team (3)
• All fighters, Follow Me! (5)
• Expanded Hangar Bay (5)
= 73 Points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
• General Draven (3)
• Yavaris (5)
= 65 Points

GR-75 Combat Retrofits (24)
• Toryn Farr (7)
• Bomber Command Center (8)
• Boosted Comms (4)
= 43 Points

CR90 Corvette A (44)
• General Rieekan (30)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
• Jaina's Light (2)
= 83 Points

Squadrons:
• Shara Bey (17)
• Wedge Antilles (19)
• Dagger Squadron (15)
• Norra Wexley (17)
• 2 x B-wing Squadron (28)
• Dutch Vander (16)
• Luke Skywalker (20)
= 132 Points

Total Points: 396

Can you give me ideas on the pros/cons, ways to improve the fleet design, or things to be aware of and watch out for against some of the different fleet designs in routine use?

Thanks

Changed the squadrons back to original

I think you have the anti fighter role well covered by your own squadrons so consider Flight Commander on Yavaris. Then it can remain a little further back then rush in and activate squadrons. As you can't put Boosted comms on it this gets you some more reach.

The Flotilla may wish to get in close to get more use from Toryn who has a shorter range effect than BCC so boosted comms may not be needed in exchange for Bright Hope for a little protection.

Get Jan Orrs into your squadrons to free up the bombers for a turn or two so they can shred ships. Gold Squadron is a good substitute for a B-Wing or Dagger squadron to free up some points. Shara, Luke, Nora or Dutch - you will have to loose one of them to fit Jan in. Probably Nora would be my recommendation although with Jan lending out Brace tokens you can get away with regular X-Wings to protect her.

I don't know if it's a problem to you, but you'll probably only really get 1 turn of AFFM! since you have to have the token before the beginning of the turn. Unless your Pelta doesn't use the squadron command, you have no way to generate a token. It might be all you need, but Veteran Captain might help if not.

Otherwise it's a pretty good start!

To be fair, AFFM is really pretty useless once you get into an engagement. I don't like it purely because you only typically need it once maybe twice to retarget after something dies.

Initially i was thinking AFFM would be useful to get the Bwings into the fight, and maybe on 1 other turn, which would be a squadron token on turn 1, and 2, then a discard the next time it is needed. I havent used B's previously due to the speed 2 limit, and wanted to get them in a list and also keep them moving.

Ive updated the squadron buildout adding 2 HWK for the replacement of Dutch and Luke.

I like the Veteran Captain card as well, I had overlooked it, and that will work well for a turn 2 or turn 3 use of AFFM! and actually activating the squadrons at the same time.

With that in mind, here is the revised fleet.

I agree. I've been struggling designing fleets around B-Wings for this reason... I'm horrified every time I look at the finished fleet.

Just drop Draven - the card isn't very good and in an ideal world you don't want Yavaris close enough to the fight to use it. This fleet DEMANDS second. If someone forces you to go first they have a very good chance due to your low activation count of forcing you to move into range (wasting your squad command, or over extending squads out of position) and then moving into range for them to shoot you. Rieekan does NOTHING to help a dead ship that has already moved for the turn. This is a huge weakness. If you build to 400 wanting second and I build to 398 not minding second I am going to give you first and absolutely destroy you making Rieekan pointless.

1. Since you want second look at the objectives

-Why not Superior Positions? There really is no reason.

-You don't want your ships in firing range so MW does nothing. I get the drawback is very low too, just seems like you could do better. For instance I am using Close Range Intel Scan so I can hide my carriers on a dust cloud to keep them alive and throwing squad commands over the cloud - again, I don't need him shooting anyway. If you want the double point ISD then continue on, but bum rush fleets are going to negate this and now you are giving them extra dice against your pivotal BCC/Toryn flotilla.

2. Bombers are the SOLE source of damage for this fleet. Whether you win or lose is going to hinge 100% on your ability to keep them alive and in position long enough to triple tap Norra Bwings on the target. To that end:

-If you are taking generics take Jan for the bonus braces.

-Ten Numb is OP in a Bwing fleet to help in a pinch to clear out a heavy squad presence if you can fit him.

-Wedge would be just fine as a generic X or YT1300 (probably the latter) with Jan around, giving you the pts to add Jan.

-While your at it, ditching Shara for a second YT/X escort helps keep what you want to stay alive alive. Shara encourages them to shoot the squads you don't want to die even more. She's like a reverse escort.

Broba, thank you for the analysis, that is very helpful.

I thought MW would apply to the bombers as well, which would add a significant number of black dice to the pool over an attack run, if it doesn't work that way then I am definitely better off with a different objective. I'll look at the changes and add then next revision here soon.

Thanks again
