Battle Droids

By thepopemobile100, in Star Wars: Legion

This is all theory crafting, but it's fun anyway.

B1 Battle Droids 42pts or 35pts

7 minis

Range: 1-3 with 1 white die. No melee and no surge

Defense: White Die no surge

Speed 1

Abilities

No Preservation Instinct: Unit gains only benefits from half the cover bonus.

Weakness Ion: Ion weapons affect this unit as if it were a vehicle

Upgrade Slots: Personnel, Firmware

The idea I have with the firmware slot is that instead of getting a heavy weapons or other upgrades is that it compensates for a specific stat like a targeting upgrade granting offensive surge to hit or a locomotion upgrade that increases speed to 2.

with all of those penalties built in i think they would be worth around 6 points each. that half cover thing tho seems like a unit killing add on unless they are just ridiculously cheap to field.

I like the idea of them being cheap. A 6 point upgrade for an extra with a 10 point upgrade giving them a surge or removing one of the penalties would keep them under 60 points, something that just isn't seen almost ever.

Roger, roger.

Seems about right. I'm predicting many units, but White Defense / White Offense. Kind of like a Zerg Swarm.

I like the hardware slot. Add surge. Or add dice upgrade.

I do think they should have bulkier units that are specialized though. Like the DLT. The larger squad size (8 minis with heavy trooper, 9 minis with extra trooper) adds more meat around an actually decent unit. And its thematic.

They should be cheap though for sure. Cheap, but fairly useless once squads get whittled down.

my idea for the B1 is similar:

B1 battle droid: 42 points

6 models

1 hp

2 courage

White defence dice/no surge

white attack dice for melee-3/no surge

speed 2

2 extra soldier upgrade

1 grenade upgrade

keywords:

Droid: This unit ignores the effects of suppression tokens.

Integrated coms: If your commander is a droid this unit can be issued command tokens anywhere on the board.

the reason for 2 courage is to make it so that the unit doesn't panic to quickly, given that suppression doesn't affect them this shouldn't be a problem.

I'm actually thinking they'll come in much larger units. Or the option for several Personnel upgrade slots.

Either a base 6 droids with up to 4 Personnel slots OR 8 droids with 2 personnel slots. Maybe replace 1 of these slots with a Heavy weapon option.

1 hp

Courage - (so no running away, but no suppression cover either)

White defense and offense and melee. No surges.

I like the idea of a new upgrade type for programming that could be used to buff them. Advanced Evasion Programming: Gain Defense Surge=Block. Advanced Targeting Systems: Gain offense surge=hit.

Super Battle Droids would have much better stats of course. Probably 2 wounds, red defense. Offense surge=hit. Red+Black attack for range 1-2. Maybe a second rocket weapon and arsenal.

While I would love for up to ten droids in a unit, that might be too much as it would take longer on average to kill the unit than a full group of stormtroopers.

The blank courage value is a good idea as the suppression has saved the unit from being wiped out, only for them to run away if I didn't rush a commander over.

I'm thinking the same with the Super Battle Droids, but double black at range 1-3 with the wrist rocket being range 1-2 with a red and impact 1

How pissed would you guys be if they released a Legion: Clone Wars new Core box and it didn't have droids at all, just Geonosians or some ****?

Probably just as pissed as people would be if the core set came with Gungans instead of clones.

It would mean I'd save some money, which is probably for the best anyway. Still would be pissed, but not as upset as the sales rep would be

Gungans vs. Geonosians confirmed new core set confirmed.

I would love to see battle droids in units of 10, but don't give them defensive dice. would feel way more like a horde list like.
