Enemy difficulty in solo vs multi player mode

By Nordway, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

.

Why are some enemies much more difficult to get rid of when you play solo compared to when there are more players.

Take for example «*the Experiment» in «The Dunwich Legay»

The health value is 7 + 3/ Investigator.

So a solo player has to cope with 10 health Points

Two players with 13, which is 6.5 for each player

Four players have to deal with 19 health points which is only 4.75/ player

Would it not be better to have 7 health points or perhaps only 6 health Points /Investigator

«*The Masked Hunter» and «*Nargorat» from «The Midnight Masks» is equipped in a similar manner, but the results are not so bad as they have 4+2/investigator and 4+3/investigator.

Or am i missing something here?

The progression is not purely linear, because investigators specialize more when there are more of them. With 2 players, you likely have a dedicated fighter and a dedicated clue-seeker. The former will dish out most of the damage (possibly all of it) and averages like this aren't really meaningful.

Im guessing that this is to reward playstyles.

If you tackle Extracurricular solo a fighty investigator will find difficulty getting the XP on the Dormitories and might even not be able to obtain the janitor card, instead the fighter will be able to kill the Experiment. This then applies in reverse for the clue-y dudes, who might be able to gather every single clue but have trouble with sustained combat.

I think it has to do with the Massive keyword. Massive is not as powerful in single player so they up the relative HP to make up for that. Broods are similar.

All just speculation.

  • Its most likely that 2 players have it easier than 1 player, but the game is supposed to be playable for solo gaming as well, so things should not be liek this. I think playing The Experiment with 6 HP in solo is OK
