Epic, Large, or Conversion for Upgrades?

By slowreflex, in X-Wing

So with 1.0 you had to buy some Epic ships for certain upgrades. I don't think we know if this will be the case in 2.0 or not yet. However, I don't play Epic. The Epic 1.0 Upgrades are in the Conversion Kits to my knowledge. Do you think its better to buy the conversion kits if you don't want the Epic models? Or do we think FFG will not do this upgrades strategy again with 2.0 and will put all non-Epic playable upgrades with non-Epic ships? I could just wait until the say what's going on with Epics in 2.0, but not sure if conversion kits will still be around by then.

Note: I don't have any of my 1.0 stuff anymore, so starting from scratch.

Honestly, if you don’t have your 1.0 stuff anymore, I would:

1. Pick a faction

2. Buy core set and expansion or two

3. Buy someone’s ships on the cheap and fill in a single conversion kit.

It is ultimately cheaper to go that route than it would be to wait and buy back all the ships when they rerelease. The only reason someone shouldn’t do this is they’re so brand new they don’t even know what they liked from before.

I'm happy to expand slowly with each re-released wave. Understand it's not ecomonically best, but I want the collection to expand bit by bit and not get overwhelmed with content straight away. Also want the newer models.

However, buying an Epic ship for the same price as a conversion kit, but not ever using the ship, doesn't feel right to me, if the cards are in the conversion kit of course.

Maybe I'll just wait and see.

you won't be able to use the cards from the 1.0 epic ships in 2.0. You'll only be able to use the plastic when they update epic in 2.0. If you want to play 2.0, you need to buy 2.0 cards. I hope this helps.

Nothing from the 1e epic ships will be useful in future except probably the models.

I think he understands that - what he’s getting at is the conversion kits offer the 2.0 equivalents of these cards (like Palpatine) and he’s wanting to know if they will only be in the conversion or if we may see them as part of some 2.0 epic release.

@slowreflex

The trouble is, we don’t know what to expect realistically going forward. We know that ffg has promised you can get 2.0 cards without “rebuying” ships, however the conversion kit may be what they have in mind for some of them. Or maybe not. We don’t really know what the game plan from ffg will be going past wave 1, which we know is conversion kits that include all the cards from the wave 1 2.0 expansions (and then some)

Yeah, it's hard to say. However, they did put Wampa in the 2.0 TIE Fighter Expansion and he was previously only in the Assault Carrier (Epic) expansion for 1.0. So, that gives me some hope that they won't force people to buy Epic ships solely for upgrades in 2.0. Palpatine could easily be included in 2.0 Lambda or 2.0 Decimator expansions for example.

Very possible. If I were a betting man, I would say we will not see 2.0 epic for a long time while they are rolling out rereleases AND four new factions (sequel trilogy and prequel trilogy). Eventually we might see it but primarily as a way to convert the old epic ships into 2.0 playable mode. I just don’t see ffg offering a lot of love for epic when the sales of the c-roc were so bad (in large part to no essential scum upgrades at the power level of Palp).

Then again, they DID announce the super star destroyer for Armada, so anything is possible I guess.
