Jedhead's Painting and Conversions: (Update: Urban Assault)

By Jedhead, in Painting

As background to the upcoming photos and posts, I have been wanting to get into painting miniatures for years, and I finally pulled the trigger with Legion.

Prior to this, I have never done any painting, modelling, or conversions, so I am looking to receive feedback and input on the work I have been doing. I plan to upload my recent work to this thread over the next few weeks, but for now I wanted to start with my first ever attempted conversion: the rebel sniper. Let me know what you all think (constructive criticism welcome)! Currently I need to add his hand back on, and finish the custom base. You will notice he appears to "float" a bit. with the base under him he will be more form-fitting to the terrain, at least in theroy. It is a work in progress, so more photos to follow as I continue to experiment!

*edit* Apparently I stink at uploading images on my first try ?

I really like your conversions. Can't wait to see these painted and based.

Those are cool. Sweet ideas on use of the minis. Can't wait to see others.

Amazing. How could I buy these off you?

Thank you for the kind words. I get very attached to my work, though, so I won't be parting with them. ☺️

Sniper team looks incredible.

Glad you like them! Most of the steps of the conversion are fairly self-evident, but I will write up a detailed summary once I am done and post it here in case anyone wants to reference it.

Is that a custom sniper? Whre from?

The whole thing is from the rebel commando set, but it is a mix and match of parts from four different troopers. The only non-legion material is the small paperclip I cut to attach to the sniper; all else is just hobby knife and super-glue work with a bit of vallejo plastic putty thrown in.

I am coaching volleyball and our season just started, so I don't have any time right now, but as soon as things settle down after tryouts I will work on finishing the team and posting a guide as to how I did it. I don't mind if people want to have a go at it themselves, and if you can improve on my methods, so much the better!

….paint them....Paint Them....PAINT THEM!...

I don't know why, but I feel the strange urge to grab my brushes and begin painting anything and everything near me...

Nice conversion, always glad to see different and unique conversions

As mentioned above, I haven't had much time to work on my conversions in recent days (hopefully this weekend that will change...stay tuned!), but I thought I would upload a couple of my old paint jobs from earlier this year.

Here is my first go at the T-47 (paint scheme following Sorastro for the most part):

And another paint scheme in desert camo that i cooked up:

Also, question for pic posting veterans out there:

I am uploading from imgur, but it seems like my photos are all ridiculously huge, at least to my eye. I am not particularly tech-savvy, so if anyone knows why they are so enormous, and how I can maybe dial them down just a bit, please let me know!

They will look at a lot bigger on a computer screen but on a phone, they are normal sized photos. I've been using imgur for a while and this is how the photos have always been for me.

Here is the progress I made on my sniper team yesterday. Going for a bit of a rocky outcropping look.

I won't be able to work on them again until next weekend, most likely, but if I squeeze in any painting I will try to get some photos up.

I was also able to work on the next conversion a bit: the demo team the snipers are covering. I figure this guy is planting explosives in an urban ruins environment, prepping for the moment when an enemy team takes shelter behind the rubbish pile.

Mate this is incredible work on the Demolitions team, and I've been thinking about how I can convert my Scouts when they arrive next week.
Love the display basing, and surely if this guy was used as part of a full squad (so he's not the leader) you could use him on the table!

The links are broken for your other images but I'm dying to see your work on the Sniper team!

I look forward to seeing your take on them--I really like your other conversions, as mentioned in your thread!

*Edit* I also tried to update the link for the sniper team photo. Hopefully it is visible now!

Sniper pic worked and is looking great! Can't wait to see how they end up. :)

So I was able to do a bit of painting this last weekend, and I decided to go for the demo team first. They are almost complete in the images below, minus a few finishing details (such as the explosives and a bit of work on the bases).

My wife and I have been watching the show The Last Ship (highly recommended, by the way!) and she wanted me to do a U.S. Navy style "aquaflage" scheme based on their soon-to-be-retired uniforms. Results below!

Thanks! I was going for something different, and I kind of like the way it turned out.
