I would say you need to know how to play Armada. Vassal is great, but a few practice attempts are definitely suggested. I would get comfortable with the man tool, and how to save and load your fleets.

Yes, I had the same thought. I am playing Armada since a while, thus I am not new to the game. I had (years back) also some experiences with Vassal (with Warhammer 40K) but have never played an Armada-Vassal-Game. I will check some video tutorials during the weekend and would be more than grateful to have a partner for a first test-game before I have my first "real" match. Quoting my own user name, I am more on the beginner stage

Just make sure you enter your name, objectives and region, and make sure I can see the fleet. I dont care about what format it is in.

I think if you can do an Early round 2 and a late round 3 you should be fine (of course your opponent schedule matters but that can't be predicted)
