2.0 Bumping with ailerons

By N'Kata, in X-Wing Rules Questions

In 1.0 bumping on your ailerons move does not cause you to skip the perform action step. Does anyone have an idea if this is still true in 2.0?

I see no reason in any of the cards or in the rules reference to conclude that it has changed.

While a ship executes a maneuver or otherwise moves, it overlaps an object if the ship’s final position would physically be on top of an object.

A ship fully executes a maneuver if it does not overlap a ship.

If a ship executes a maneuver and overlaps a ship, it must partially execute that maneuver by performing the following steps:

1. Move the ship backward along the template until it is no longer on top of any other ships. While doing so, adjust the position of the ship so that the hashmarks in the middle of both sets of guides remains centered over the line down the middle of the template.

2. Once the ship is no longer on top of any other ship, place it so that it is touching the last ship it backed over. This may result in the ship returning to its starting position.

3. The ship skips its Perform Action step.
• Even though a ship that partially executes a maneuver must skip its Perform Action step, it can still perform actions granted from other game effects.
• Even if a ship partially executes a maneuver, it is still treated as having executed a maneuver of the indicated speed, bearing, and difficulty.

At this time, there is no rule in the Rules Reference about ailerons.

Unlike SLAM (which always occurs in the Perform Action Step hence after the point that 'skip Perform Action Step' would make sense), Adaptive Ailerons occurs before the Perform Action Step hence generating an instruction to skip when it comes up is valid. There is no distinction that I can see about manoeuvres resulting from revealing a dial and manoeuvres from any other source (of which SLAM and Ailerons are the only ones as far as I can see)

The reason that the FAQ/Errata entry existed is that - as written in 1.0 , colliding on your aileron move would cost you your action. The FAQ had the following statement:

Quote

If a ship equipped with Adaptive Ailerons overlaps an obstacle as part of this additional maneuver, it suffers the effect of overlapping it as described in the "Obstacles" section on page 14 of the Rules Reference
(see page 2 of the FAQ for errata of this section). For example, if a ship using Adaptive Ailerons overlaps an asteroid it would roll for damage but not skip its "Perform Action" step.

If a ship equipped with Adaptive Ailerons overlaps another ship as part of this additional maneuver, it does not skip its "Perform Action" step.

This proviso hasn't yet been copied through into 2.0's errata, hence there's nothing saying you don't skip perform action if you aileron move into someone. Unfortunately.

I agree it shouldn't, and I expect that text to show up in the errata as soon as someone notices.
