So, what does everyone use those colored bases that come in those 5 packs (1 large 4 regular) for? Do you use them to differentiate between say pilots of different skills? Just for the fun of making something different? Some other reason?
Colored bases besides clear, what do YOu use them for?
I usually use them to help differentiate different generics of the same ship type.
I use them for filling up empty slots on my storage, as I've only ever acquired them through tournament prize pools. I just find the colours to be awful.
When I get around to playing a game of HotAC with more than 3 people though, I'll be using those bases to differentiate squadrons from each other.
I don’t buy the retail ones, but I did spray paint my bases based on faction. Silver for Imps, Gold for Rebs, and Copper for Scum. Did that before the colored bases came out.
I use them just to add a little more colour to the game.
I use them for faction identity - Rebels get red bases, Imperials get blue bases, Scum get orange bases. Just makes it feel like the faction colours in Empire at War, or the IFF colours in X-Wing and TIE Fighter.
With the ST faction split, and the incoming PT factions I might have to mix that up a little. Rather than go for 'team colours', I might go for 'weapon colours' as used on the base tokens. That would mean shifting Imperials to green and using blue for the Republic.
Mainly a faction/squad identity thing. I've only once fielded a 'rainbow' squad with different bases.
Green = Imperial.
Red = Rebel.
Orange = Scum.
(Matching their base chits/lasers. Pew pew.)
Imperials = Blue
Rebels = Red
Scum = Orange
Firefly = Purple
Bird-of-Prey mercenaries = Green
One thing I have noticed about the colored bases is that the large bases are terrible quality. The pegs are always warped and frequently don't mount properly - either too tight or too loose. I've gone to replacing the pegs with magnetic rods.
I use them for Swarms of the same ship type and then usually make alt arts that match.
I use them because I like them lol And because my acrylic templates are purple too.
I like my stuff to match. Hoping they release a pack of medium bases in the colours.
I use the purple bases for ship id on the board. Dont matter the ships on top. My son uses orange or red when he plays. Keep a few clear incase of an epic game.
I have seen people use them to differentiate property in 2x2 or 3x3 games or larger. To prevent the "Was that your TIE or my TIE, or maybe his?" discussions.
Then again, unless they are custom painted, or there is damage on one of them, making them more easily identifyable, a TIE is a TIE is a TIE is a TIE (etc.) Besides, there are also the identification number tokens which people can slot onto the bases.
I use them for my faverete ships, also make it really easy to tell who's ships whoose when fighting mirror matches
It has already been mentioned, but I'll second it - they work really well for tracking squads in Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. I have groups of ships already mounted on colored bases and when I set up a mission I pull out the "Orange Squad" or "Green Squad" or whatever. That may seem like overkill but at one point I was running two campaigns at the same time and had 24+ TIE Fighters to put out for an evening of destruction.
I use them because I like having all my stuff blue. I used to have the FFG 'authentic' ones, but I didn't like that my Ghost tree stand, medium bases and epic bases didn't match. So I dyed some clear ones and now the all match, and match my movement templates.
Also helpful when I play against the same faction to remember which ship is mine
I use them to differentiate ships when I field multiples of one type. I find it easier to keep track of my ships instead of using the ID chits. I put an extra empty base on the ship card so my opponent can differentiate them as well.

That's kind of what i was thinking.. I've got 8 reds and 4 purples.. Need to get some greens and blues (if they have them) too.
I use purple because it's my favorite color. No other reason.
red, like a sith lightsaber for imps/first order
green, like pond scum for s and v
Blue, cause even though orange like a rebel pilots flight suit makes more sense, I don't care for orange and like blue more, for rebels/resistance
need to rethink first order and resistance after the faction split. or do I?
Colored card sleeves and colored bases for generic spam. Instead of X-wing #4, it's the blue one. Solves the problem of the ID tokens getting moved off of a card. I also like to color coordinate with my custom paint jobs whenever feasible.
If i was to try that, i'd have to make some silver, gold, and copper ones..
Red Squadron pilots get red bases.
Green Squadron pilots get green bases.
Blue Squadron pilots get blue bases.
Gold Squadron pilots get yellow bases.
I usually run my Imperials and S&V on red or green bases.

This right here, substituting red.
I find them incredibly useful when you have mirror matches, or at least some of the same ships being used by both people. Also, I like using them for similar reasons in HotAC.
I use an Orange base when flying Poe’s black T-70, and Red when flying Wedge is his T-65. I just find the matching colours of the base and model make it look a little better. As well, like someone mentioned before, it does help differentiate when you’re flying against another player with the same models
