OK, so we've got 3 films each for both McKellen and Fassbender as Magneto (though technically Ian has 4 as he was also in DOFP), and the same for Stewart vs McAvoy as Xavier..
So who do you all think did the job better?

McAvoy and Fassbender are both very good, but they are playing roles made for older men. Both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are better actors than God, so they win.
You'll never better Stewart for me, no matter how hard McAvoy tries, but I think McKellen and Fassbender are about equal, there's a real difference between young conflicted angry Magneto and old, tired, resigned Magneto and they're both done impeccably.
Ive gotta go with both younger actors, but ONLY because they had such better quality of material to work with. If Stewart and McKellen had had a script as good as First Class....

First Class is probably my favourite X-Men film. The whole decade per film was a great idea, unfortunately DOFP and Apocalypse didn't really make the most of it.

I still liked them a lot more than the first 3 though.

It is interesting to see the difference between the young conflicted magneto in the earlier films and how he was (still angry) in the initial 3 ones.

If i was to rank them, i'd put
X1 top
then DOFP
then 1st class/Age of apocalypse
then X2
Then pulling up the rear is X3

I loved the first, and even liked #2. 3 had a # of cringe worthy moments. BUT it still gave us one of my favorite things from the comics.. Collossus doing the fast ball special!
X1 was ok for its time, but then Marvel came along and showed us that superhero movies could actually be good, instead of just ok.
3 is actually not bad if you fast forward through everything having to do with Jean. (Leaving a little over an hour of movie). The stuff about the “cure” and magnetos reaction to it is pretty good, it’s just all the dark Phoenix stuff they tried to cram in there that ruined it.
If I was ranking them...
First Class - absolutely nailed the X-Men's origin story, built on Magneto's origin and combined it with the cool swinging 60's vibe. Plus, everything's better with Bacon
X2 - the best of Bryan Singer's bunch, Nightcrawler in the White House, Stryker, Wolverine
Days of Future Past - salvaged the train wreck of X-Men 3, gave us some cool moments with the original cast & characters alongside the First Class crew. Not overly impressed by the Mystique-centric story and use of the Sentinels though
X-Men - not so much an origin story as a scene setter, did the job well)
X-Men Apocalypse - I've watched it. I can't say I really remember too much about it.
The Last Stand - as mentioned earlier, a train wreck
Add the Wolverine films into the equation and you'd have Logan at the top, The Wolverine in the middle and Origins: Wolverine at the end. It seems like each trilogy has one good, one average and one bad film
Apocalypse was a disappointment.
They nailed Psylock's look, but she was only there as eye candy and pointless in the movie. The Apocalypse costume was horrible. There's an interview with the guy that makes marvel props.. he did a full mock up of the character that looks straight out of the comic/cartoon. But they went with what we saw on screen instead. So lame.
Plot was forgettable and didnt really feel world ending ominous.

Strange, i prefer Origins wolverine, over The wolverine. So of HIS trilogy, i'd have Logan at the top XMO:W as #2, then The wolverine in the rear.
If we're adding DP to the list, he'd probably slide right in between Jackman and Jennifer, you know, just how he likes it.
I really loved the snipes at the X films in Deadpool..
Patrick Stewart is so perfectly cast that it's hard to overtake him. McEvoy probably puts more effort into the role though, and it's great.
McKellen was fine, but probably a decade too late for him. Mikey Fass is amazing, as always. I've got to give him the edge because his story in Apocolaypse is extremely engaging, and everything in the movie is merely fine. Or boring.
Plus you just gotta love seeing him decimate Awschwitz, and slamming those two iron girders down in the form of an X right in front of the big A..
