Making MC80’s all around killers

By Battlefleet 01 Studios, in Star Wars: Armada

So I was thinking about how to make the MC80 a better all around ship since I know they aren’t the most favored large rebel ship out there, and I have some ideas.

Take the assault cruiser variant, throw on spinal armaments. Now you have 3 red and a blue out the front. Add Defiance tital and now you have 3 red a blue and one of any color provided you attack someone who has already activated. Next, use a concentrate fire command to add a die to the front. Voila, now you have 6 dice out the front the same are your broadsides.

Granted, you have to make the tital card line up with your plans and run a concentrate fire command but this would make MC80 better, or am I missing something?

If you use QBTs and keep at speed 1 (or 1 + 1 Engine Techs) you get the extra dice out of both arcs and with Defiance going off twice that's potentially a lot of damage. Also 4 points cheaper than spinals.

Another advantage of QBTs is to let you use leading shots even at maximum range - although Defiance can do that for you if the target has already activated.

In the same fleet do the same trick with an AFIIA with Chiatken, Paragon and QBTs.

On top of all this throw in Sato to swap reds for black dice (or blues to get accuracies against flotillas).

A bully doom pickle. Defiance for a blue dice for rerolls, all sorts of defense, Engine techs for speed, intel officer to punish brace usage, XI-7 for pushing the damage.

MC80 Assault Cruiser (114)
• Admiral Ackbar (38)
• Intel Officer (7)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Early Warning System (7)
• Leading Shots (4)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6)
• Defiance (5)
= 196 Points

Yeah use that thing or a fighter coordination team platform with Bwings

But this only works if they are going faster than you, at least in my area the most common speed for the Empire is 1.

I feel the empire running at speed 1 are either Arquitens, or not living up to their potential, so you call it a win either way ?

You want to turn the MC80 into a front arc ship? That doesn't make sense because if you want a front arc ship use the MC80, and for broadsides use the MC80.

OK, you can call it a win, but when they control the table and/or objectives I would say that they won. But that may just be me and my antiquated version of winning ?.

I don’t have problems with slow imperials... Imperials slow are BomberFodder.

Itsvthose Speed 3 Star Destroyers that vex me.

I am so confused by this statement. At first I thought "oh, yeah, the Liberty can do some good work, but it's not really that popular" but then you kept going.

It's probably the most popular rebel large ship out there....

This is one of the reasons that I like this game. It is so different depending on where you are playing. Locally we have had no issue with the speed 3 ISD's the few players who still move at that speed do not last long, the ones who move at speed 1 on the other hand have been the biggest issue we have had with the Imperials, the bomber fleets that have been sent after them have died horrible (glorious guess deepening on side you are on) deaths. Where as it sounds like the reverse is true for you area.

I think this post is underrated. Keep up the good work.

Could you not just take the Armored Cruiser? Or do u need 2 Defense and 1 Support slot?
