Comms are like the Ravens of Game of Thrones (but faster)...the default is they get where they're supposed to go, unless there is something nefarious going on specifically targeting the PCs.
I don't know that I'd apply it directly, but having a catalog of pseudoscience filed away is always good when you need to apply a narrative effect, scenario description, or figure out what to do with that Threat or Despair...
