Slots

By Nordway, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

All investigators have 2 hands . If the 1-hand slot is occupied and the 2-hand slot is free, it should be possible to use the 2-hand slot for a 1-hand item.If a 2-hand item is played, of cause one of the 1-hand items must be discarded.

Hence Roland should be able to have his .45 in one hand and his magnifying glass in the other., but if he plays his shotgun one of the two other items must be discarded.

I know that this is not exactly what the rules says, but that is the way I play when I play solo.

So... you have three hands?

Are you under the impression that an investigator has 1 slot for a 1-handed item, and 1 slot for a 2-handed item - meaning that you cannot put a one-handed item like a flashlight or knife in the 2-handed slot, and that you can have a 2-handed item like a shotgun in the 2-handed slot and a 1-handed item in the one-handed slot? If so, you're overthinking things and being misled by the icons used.

Investigators have two hand slots, each of which can be used for a 1-handed item. If you equip a 2-handed item, like a shotgun or baseball bat, this will take up both hand slots. It is therefore already possible to have a .45 Automatic in one hand and a Magnifying Glass in the other hand. It is not possible to have a shotgun and a magnifying glass out at the same time, because the shotgun is taking up both hand slots.

You can equip a Bandolier, which provides you with another hand slot which can only be used for weapons - this is the only way so far to have both a shotgun and a magnifying glass equipped at the same time.

You don't have a 1-hand slot and a 2-hand slot, you simply have two (identical) hand slots. Some cards require one of your hand slots (e.g. Magnifying Glass) and some cards require both of your hand slots (e.g. Shotgun).

OK, so I was almost right, only that if I use a 2-hand slot item I have to discard both 1-hand items.

Good.

Arcane slots work the same way, though no cards take up both arcane slots yet.

On second thoughts.

I believe you are wrong, since what you are saying is that a 2-hand slot take up both the 2-hand slot and the 1-hand slot. I can find no rules saying that this is correct. The Rules Reference say that you have 2 hand slots available, one 1-hand slot and one 2-hand slot

Another matter is that you cannot use a thing from both slots at the same time, you don“t have 3 hands, but you can carry for example a shotgun and a magnifying glass.

You only have two one hand slots, because you have two hands... and one two hand item use both of your one hand slots. So no hands left...

Hi

The rules reference states that the following slots are available (page 19):

=1 accessory slot
=1 body slot
=1 ally slot
=2 hand slots
=2 arcane slots

The 2 hand slot symbol is referring to that fact that it fills 2 of the above hand slots, while the 1 handed symbol means it fills 1 hand slot, not that you have a 1 hand slot and a 2 hand slot.

I hope that helps

There is no such thing as a two-hand slot. You have two hand slots. Your left hand and your right hand. Some items require both hands. You can hold a flashlight in your left hand and a gun in your right hand. Or a rifle using both hands.

It's also on page 11 of the Learn To Play book

Slots

Slots restrict the number of cards of a specific category an investigator can have in play at one time. If an asset has one or more slot symbols, it may only enter play if its controller has those slots available. The slots available to an investigator are:

  • 1 ally slot, 1 body slot, 1 accessory slot, 2 hand slots, and 2 arcane slots.

It then shows the different icons that you'll see on player cards indicating what slots they occupy. Perhaps this is what is confusing the OP.

I love the answer about the Hand Slots and the Arcane Slots... Wife and I really needed clarification on this and already thought the same way.

Here is my question:

Let's say you have 2 items(one in each hand) and you draw a weakness "The Necronomicon" which is also a Hand slot, do you need to discard one of the cards already in play to make room for the weakness?

@Pete_Steel Yes, you would be forced to discard one of your current hand items. Minh's weakness functions the same way, while Marie's occupies the ally slot and the new "The Tower" weakness occupies the tarot slot. Those are all the weaknesses that occupy slots, I think.

There's also the "Dendromorphosis" weakness from the most recent Arkham Nights, which takes up two hand slots.
