[Blog] Ten Squads in Ten Days - 10) Scum Swarm

By SOTL, in X-Wing

Thank you for taking the time to share these lists. i have enjoyed the countdown with them and they have been very insightful for me. I love X-Wing, but I admit, i am terrible at creating effective lists.

Ten Squads in Ten Days ends today on X-Wing Eve. I hope I've not outstayed my welcome by spamming the place with squad ideas, and maybe even given a few people a bit of inspiration for what they'd like to fly after unwrapping their presents on Thursday morning.
X-Wing is dead. Long live X-Wing!

If you do ever get around to running this one, I'd love to read the report on the game. :)

Hey! I'll be flying this at a tournament this weekend! Batreps to follow. Thinking I will squeeze in Tobias Beckett.

Do consider the bid to be able to disrupt ini1 TIE swarms, though.

One of our locals, who plays with @SOTL on occasion has been running it with proxies for the last few weeks. It's really good. We will be mashing it into a howlswarm tomorrow morning to see what breaks.

Yeah... wouldnt this list want init vs tie swarm for perfect info on the Quadjumpers and to block/ not be blocked?

I think we have the understand what we mean by TIE Swarm. For most people I think that's I4 Inferno Squad at 200pts not a bunch of academy dudes, if only because you need to buy an extra TIE to get 7 dials.

I think the scum swarm sounds like a fun space biker gang idea that is very thematic. My question is: How do you stop people from alpha striking Drea into dust? even a side show of a few TIE bombers with torps may be able to land enough hits to kill her. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that most of the squad is at I1 and so many other ships are I2 minimum. That means that an opponent could remove her ability from the board before the other ships can make use of it.

Howlrunner is still as strong as she ever was, but I think much of the hype for TIE swarms is being fueled by Iden. She just keeps ships alive for way longer than they rightfully should.

Still, even if Drea were removed, 6 ships on the board can still turn around just about any game.

The thing with this version of Drea is that her turret arc is in her arc as well, and her arc extends right out to R3 even though Dorsal is R1-2. There's no real reason at all why you would be flying Drea into the teeth of the swarm to begin with as she can happily flank and call shots out for her team.

A flanking Y-Wing! What is this devilry?

@SOTL Your enthusiasm is palpable. I love it! I can't wait for our Launch Party Friday to mingle with the local crew and put some ships on the table!

With the scum swarm list, you want the attention on Drea and not the Quadjumpers. The Quadjumpers tractor ability makes this list terrifying and the longer they are around, the harder it will be for your opponent. I ran the Sunny Bounder version of this in 1.0 and did very well with it, even in the harpoon era. People underestimate its ability to muck things up and wear down even high hp ships.

I tried out the 4 K list at our launch party tournament last night. This list really needs to be run in a very loose formation to prevent action losing bumps. The bombs are definitely hard to connect with, but they do help prevent your opponent from coming up from behind. I will be changing the proton bombs to seismics which will allow the addition of skilled bombardier on two ships. This should give me extra flexibility to get bomb damage in more consistently. This list can work, but it will take a lot of practice.

The KKKK squad has been doing very well locally, it came second at our Launch Celebration and then second again at the first game night this Tuesday. It's not an easy list to fly but it's been delivering some really strong results, even though the player behind it is pretty new to X-Wing.

Protip. The Sith Takers you tube channel (Currently 1 video of 3x vs TIE Swarm) will be getting it's second video in the next week. Filming done yesterday and one of the lists is the Drea Renthal swarm.
