A combat scanner is a sophisticated optics and sensor array designed for military applications. A combat scanner provides all of the functions of a general-purpose scanner, along with robust mapping and navigation capability, mission data storage and display, and hardened and secure communications with a one-hundred-kilometer line-of-sight range. External optics provide a 360-degree view around the bearer, and this imagery can be beamed to any communications device within range, or shared with the combat scanners worn by other members of the unit.

The Chedak Mark 6 is integrated into a combat helmet with visor. The Mark 6 offers some of the features of a general purpose scanner, scanner goggles for night-vision capability, and a com scrambler. This means it allows the user to see normally in dark conditions, can be set to track motion, heat, and metal, and adds BB to any checks made to attempt to decode and understand transmissions from the combat scanner to other combat scanners."

So my take on this, is that this item does not provide the helmet

Therefor it shouldn't be a gear but a Armor Modification just like the "Chedak Communications Multi-Band Comlink" with 0 HP required that attaches to Any helmet with visor.

Any other opinion?

OK. I don't see as the distinction means much functionally, but if you want to rule it that way.

I think you're overthinking it.

The inclusion of a helmet in armor is more or less a narrative thing, given this system doesn't really have rules for attacking/damaging specific areas of the body.

So I'd say this item includes a helmet on which to mount the tech. Said helmet may not provide any protection to the wearer (i.e. a bonus to soak), but it'd still be included in the cost of the item.

Thing to bear in mind also is that most armor attachments require at least one available hard point to install (there's a few exceptions, but those are quite few in number). You'd also have to decide what sorts of armors could this attachment be applied to; would it just be "hardened" armors (soak value of 2 or more) or could it be added to something like armored clothing or other Soak 1 armors that have a hard point to spare?

I do feel that you're overthinking the narrative fluff of what the item is, and that it's fine to treat it as a separate item that by default includes the headgear necessary to utilize it rather than force it into being an armor attachment.

It's a very fancy scanner that you wear on your head. The helmet itself provides no Soak or Defense, but I'm sure Chedak produces many variants of the helmet to fit almost anyone's style and functionality. They can range from riot gear style helmets to helmets that work with full sealed-system laminate armor. Since it was "designed for military applications," you could probably even find stormtrooper and scout trooper variations of the helmet, although those might have the Restricted tag applied.

In other words, if a player wants to pick it up for their character, they can describe the helmet however they wish, even describing it as simple headgear with goggles (no helmet at all).
