It’s an older list, sir, but it checks out (or does it?)

By rastahotep, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Long Range Rieekan (398/400)
Rebels

Commander: General Rieekan

Objectives: Hyperspace Assault, Opening Salvo, Dangerous Territory

[flagship] MC30c Scout Frigate (69)
- General Rieekan (30)
- Lando Calrissian (4)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
- Gunnery Team (7)
= 117 total points

CR90 Corvette A (44)
- Jaina's Light (2)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 53 total points

Nebulon-B Support Refit (51)
- Salvation (7)
- Slaved Turrets (6)
= 64 total points

CR90 Corvette B (39)
- SW-7 Ion Batteries (5)
= 44 total points

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
- Yavaris (5)
= 62 total points

Squadrons (58/134):
3x X-Wing Squadron (39)
1x Moldy Crow - Jan Ors (19)

An all Wave 1 and 2 list. The idea is that the CR90B blocks a large/slow ship while the rest blast it from long range. The x-wings are primarily there against squadrons but can bomb ships when it’s possible. Yavaris is there to make them more potent in either role.

What do you think?

Should I have a larger bid for first?

A good start, but the MC30 isn’t built effectively. If you’re running a scout, you’re building around it with either Ackbar or Sato to justify the extra points you’re paying for red dice on a ship that wants to fire at close range (Ackbar because he adds enough dice to kinda justify long range use, Sato to trigger long range crit effects.) If two red dice with gunnery team is what’s needed, a Hammerhead is better. If not, ordnance experts, a crit upgrade, and Admo on a torpedo frigate are practically mandatory so it can do what 30s are meant to do: jump in and kill things. I wouldn’t say I’m opposed to a medium fighter coverage with Yavaris, but it just isn’t mobile enough to screen. Since it doesn’t pose a serious anti-ship threat (especially without flight commander to radically boost its range,) they’ll bomb where Yavaris & co aren’t and suddenly it’s merely a Neb pushing squads. I’d drop Yavaris for a GR75 and a corvette. If keeping the wave 2 theme is important, maybe another MC30 and a couple YT-2400s to replace the current screen. A larger bid would also be smart, as you mentioned. Lastly, are you determined to use core set objectives only? Salvage Run or Solar Corona are much nicer for MSU. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice @The Jabbawookie. I can change the MC30 to what you suggested, but with the rest I’m quite limited by the ships in my collection and currently I don’t have the budget to buy more ships or squadrons, so no extra YT-2400, corvette or MC30 and no CC objectives. I could stick in a couple of GR-75s instead of Yavaris, but I’m reluctant to lose those three red dice. Do you think Yavaris would be more workable in this list if it had Flight Commander?

Flight Commander would definitely be a huge help. Honestly, Jan and 3 W-wings have enough innate tankiness to last a couple rounds against a carrier fleet. If you don’t rely on Yavaris to supply a bunch of extra squadron power, but throw FC on and treat it as another Neb with a neat trick up its sleeve, things might be just fine. With the GR75 switch, you’re trading 3 red dice for an extra activation, pushable squads and a strong bid for first (and maybe room for Slicer Tools...) If that gives you a first-last double arc with Admo you wouldn’t otherwise have gotten, you recieved 2 extra crit-enabled blacks and a blue. If it gives Jaina’s Light a way past an ISD front arc, it saved you 53 points + whatever firepower JL contributes later. It definitely means you won’t be playing nearly as much Dangerous Territory. That said, either path you choose could work out, and I hope you’ll keep me posted on the results. ?
