Soontir Loadouts

I love the Soontir/Predator/Shield/Stealth combo, as it permits more aggressive flying, sometimes into a missile, if desperate. It also allows for a frustratingly difficult squint to kill if he feels cagey and lurking in the shadows. But I also am enjoying the 54 pt base Predator version as an I5 hunter for his wingmates of juke Rexler and juke Whisper (who often feel like 4 dice primaries). That's an incredibly powerful filler ship!

What are you loading Soontir with? What is your optimal price with him?

Mine ends up at 72, with Lone wolf, Stealth or Shield, and Afterburner.

Lone wolf for the defensive use, afterburner was great that one time where i needed double repositioning and tokens, so I‘ll stick with it for now.

Crackshot or Predator are probably worth the 1-2 points. It’s ludicrously easy to line up bullseye with him.

I tried Loke Wolf last night but my squad was such (Vader Juke Whisper and Sister Juke Echo) that Lone Wolf was turned off most of the time. So basically no upgrades. I think Lone Wolf really depends on the rest of your squad. If you fly a formation block then you can probably get value from Lone Wolf by flanking. Empire probably fields too many pocket aces to make the most of Lone Wolf though.

For now I really don’t see any reason to invest in mods. It forces you to do less with the rest of your squad. 2 mods on Fel could have been Vader Crew!!

Yeah, a bullseye ept for 1 or 2 points isn't a terrible idea, if you have them spare, but I stand by the assertion that there are few to no aces who are actually worth spending points on upgrades for, and vice versa that there are few to no upgrades that are actually worth the points.

I do wonder if the best archetype isn't 'all the I5s you can fit in one list' though. You can get like 5 or 6 mostly with 3 die guns in some factions.

Predator is great on Soontir, but probably worse than another 2pt bid.

I think 52pt Soontir is probably best, but if you've already got a 10pt bid you can probably risk dropping to 8pts and Predator.

I still love outmaneuver on him. For 58 pts you get a double repositioning Wedge.

My other build is Teamwork Fel, paired with Tricky Turr Phennir. Swarm Tactics on Fel and Trickshot on Phennir. If Phennir has to go nose to nose with a target, Fel makes sure Phennir shoots first so he can roll/boost out of arc and then Fel mops up. That's 100 pts for a pair of nasty flankers.

So typically I am giving Soontir just Predator, Ruthless, or Juke and calling it a day. Most predator since Soontir gets bullseye alot. He wants to be in close to arc dodge. He cant really afford to stay at range 3 in arc of more than 1 ship and if you do that regularly hes gone in just a couple turns anyway even against 2 dice. Having a blast with Soontir. Its like the old Targeting Computer Soontir. Play Fast and Furious, but cautious. Trade those points when he does eventually die. I have to remind myself not to give them away while running away. This is probably how vulnerable all I6 ace ships should feel. Highly maneuverable but truly die very easily when defending to the point that you question bringing them in the first place.

There's also 181st Fel, with Squadron leader at init 6.

Since I'm also running Palp in my list, a 70 point Fel is great for me: Predator, Afterburners, Stealth. He's insanely tough to hit. Evade, and then Autothruster for position to get the focus (if you even need it). I haven't had much luck with Lone Wolf, Juke is okay. Crackshot could be good but predator is MUCH better for one more point.

Just take lonewolf and stealth and you're done.

I think overloading on mods is bad in 2nd edition in general. Soontir is no exception. I'd go with Predator at the most, probably.

Naked Fel or Fel with Predator. The mods he likes are way too expensive for a three Hull ship that relies on green dice. Keep him cheap.

Fel with ace frends, oh wait only Vader has matching int and the rest of the 181st including the #2 man, turr are scrubs at int 4 there are no int 5 intercepters to fly with fel

Just played 2 games with it, seeing its identical to the list I main with the exception of the predator change for lone wolf. Considering how the gang like to converge on a target from 3 different directions, I can see it working well. But for me, Soontir was always r1-2 of friends when attacking (and proc'ing his ability) and always out of arc, as the best green dice are no green dice. I guess to each their own.

Player301 has correctly identified vthe ideal amount of green dice one should be rolling (a big, fat ZERO)

They don't need em, and that's for the best. Your Soonts only needs a cheap talent, whisper only needs juke etc.

Basically, you gotta think about Soontir in a more lore-accurate way. He's an AMAZING pilot, flying a suicidal deathtrap. No amount of upgrades will keep him in play for longer than you dodging your opponent (because infinite coverage PWT bull is DEAD rejoice!!!!!!!)

I go Predator, 54 Points? for a Int 6 Ace that can sort of still stack tokens.

I think Predator is better than Lone Wolf for reasons Dodging said, but I was looking at adding Del Meeko into the mix for green die rerolls. If they try and kill Del, they arent trying to kill Soontir or the other Ace. I think it's a Win-Win.
