No, you can only target obstacles with abilities/upgrades that specifically function vs obstacles.

You can Lock obstacles with the normal Lock action, but you cannot otherwise affect them except with specific upgrades/abilities that say so (e.g. Seismic Charges)

I find it interesting that you can lock devices as well. Maybe there will be subsequent devices that create persistant effects, but can be targeted with an attack and shot down?

A cool one would be something like "Scrambler Beacon: Enemy Ships cannot lock objects other than Scrambler Beacons, if they can lock a Scrambler Beacon." Give it 3 agility and 1 hull, and any enemy can attack it.

On a related question.. .has there been a ruling or has it been stated if the old debris/asteroids can be used in 2.0?

They can.

Thank you... just for poops and giggles... do you know where that was posted? My local group has been debating over it none stop.

I don't.

As yet, nowhere.

The old obstacles are clearly debris or asteroids (as appropriate).

In your own games, use whatever you like - torn up bits of paper, gravel, whatever.

For a formal event, the tournament rules will list what obstacles can legally be used (note that they disallowed the epic debris in 1.0, I think).

As yet there are no published tournament rules; for any local event, it's TO's ruling but you'd have to be a bit odd to care enough to ban 1.0 obstacles.

This ^

FFG has said in both the release announcement and in the demos that 2nd ed core will come with a 'greatest hits' of obstacles, mainly for new players. And that the 1st ed stuff is still considered legal. But if you have the type of group that argues about such things, they are probably going to need to see it in writing. As of yet they have not released the tourny guidelines which will explicitly state the case.

It was mostly built off the debate of what 1.0 stuff to hang on to and what to part with.

Qi’ra has an effect dependent upon locking an obstacle.

oh, I got the impression there was some argument if it would be legal. in that case hold on to all of your 1st ed stuff. If some of it is looking ratty or faded, see if you get a copy in the 2nd ed core set and replace it. The obstacles in the 2nd ed core are exact copies of the stuff that is already out. I believe they have 3 red core rock, 3 blue core rocks and 3 debris from the various expansions. Also be sure to hang on to your rigged cargo debris as you only get 1 normally, but if you are using Jabba, it is possible to deploy several in the same game. I look forward to filling boards with debris, then dropping seismics to light up enemies :)

Also while 2nd ed tokens are slightly different and are shaped for easy reference (remove all circles at end phase, keep all squares) the 1st ed tokens are still considered legal in 2nd as far as I know. I am still planning on using my 1st ed target locks because I custom painted them and like them better than the numbers. And the conversion kits do not include any shield tokens, so you will only have the 4 you get in the core set until you buy a few expansions. So I sharpied the backs of some of the old tokens red to use.
