XX-9 interaction with Assault Concussion Missiles

By sasska, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi,

If I have an Acm and an XX-9 epuipped, can I deal the Acm cards faceup? Let's assume that I didn't break through the defending hull zone 's shield.

(In case if I managed to get through the adjacent shields of course, and let's assume I have fire control team or what equipped too)

If you have Fire-Control Team, then yes you can. A similar case is in the FAQs with the standard critical, but it will apply too for XX-9:

"If a ship with this card equipped resolves both the Assault Proton Torpeodes critical effect and the standard critical effect, only the damage card dealt by resolving Assault Proton Torpedoes is dealt faceup."

The APT/XX9/STD Crit interaction allows us to make an ASSUMPTION that you could theoretically turn the ACM delivered cards face up, with the correct setup... but as of this point in time, there has been no specific advice in that regards...

Fun background ... most of us long term rules people’s were actually taken a bit aback by the APT/XX9 ruling as presented, which kinds of colours is, not knowing if it’s something that should be considered general advice or just a specified result in order to keep APT in check...

I would say "very likely".

APT+standard = FAQ rules that only the APT card is dealt faceup.

APT+XX-9 = APT card faceup, then 1 more card faceup.

It would seem to indicate that:

ACM+XX-9 = AC cards faceup IF both go through to hull.

If only 1 goes through, 1 is dealt faceup, then a second faceup can also be dealt if total damage gets to hull.

If no ACM damage goes to hull, then two cards can still be dealt faceup if totalt damage scores at least 2 hull dmg.

This would make the ACM/XX-9 interaction far better than the APT/XX-9 combo.

HOWEVER you can't pretend that Fire-Control Team isn't a crap card, so this should NEVER come up :P

Could be fun on a Sato armored cruiser, where the weapon team slot isn’t taken automatically.

In a Sato cruiser = Ordnance Experts

Just playing devil’s advocate, since it’s the only platform with any other (inferior) reroll slot. I agree the combo isn’t optimal.

What about a Vader's VSDI?

Ah yep, a VSD ?

I think the best spot for Fire Control Teams is on a Screed Kuat with HIE and ACM. There is a 70% chance of being able to use them all at close range of the side arc, and an 82% chance of being able to use it at close range from the front. And that is only trying to trigger the HIE/ACM combo, completely ignoring the red dice and the standard effect.

All that said, I still think there are better overall options that don't require FCT.

Yes, sadly F-C team isn't that awesome. ?
