Composure and Agile Gunner are $40 upgrades?

By Tvboy, in X-Wing

So if Rebel or Imperial players want to include a card like Composure on their A-Wings or Interceptors, they have to pay $40 on something that is otherwise useless to them? Is that correct?

Nope - it's very likely you'll see those same upgrade cards in both a Rebel and Imperial expansion coming soon. FFG is using the same model as Legion for 2.0 X-wing. That means you'll never have to buy out of faction for upgrades.

If you want to play with it on September 13, that's correct. FFG has said that they'll eventually release cards in every faction, but didn't commit to any timeline.

You could also make a friend, or go to the secondary market. I'm considering buying one extra of each expansion just to sell off individual cards and dials for $1-2 each.

Yes.

Or #4. RAGE QUIT!

Feel free to do so

I'd prefer #2 but it's your choice

No. They also get Intimidation. They also get Tactical Scrambler that can be used if they fly something on a medium or large base. Agile Gunner. Should I continue?

But yeah, you're right. FFG got us. Now we have to pay ANOTHER $40 to play. Well, we can play without that card, but who wants to do that? I mean, I *really* want to use Composure. Well, not really, but it's on that scum ship and not in any rebel kits, so it's not fair and I want it. FFG is bad because I want to use Composure. It's not even that great of a card, now that I really think about it...

FFG has clearly stated that all cards will be available to all factions. It's not that hard to find this information if you look for it. Or, you can just guess and assume the worst and act like it's the end of the world. Your choice.

Missed some of the cards that Rebels and Empire can use.

Okay, maybe I didn't clarify that I am not a time traveler that can buy expansions from the future. As things currently stand, you cannot obtain these cards if you are only buying expansions that match your faction.

Intimidation and Scrambler come in the Conversion kits already.

I mean, I really want to use Composure. It lets you easily chain into a white Focus on multiple ships. But I guess you get to decide what cards are interesting for everyone?

Nobody is acting like it's the end of the world. Just stating facts. You inserted hyperbole where there was none. If you want to play with Composure and don't play Scum, the only way to obtain it is from a $40 expansion that does not match your faction. You can hope that a 3rd party seller has it, but they often run out of stock quickly and can't afford to keep cracking $40 expansions just to sell a single card for $10.

If you want it for a tournament, then you are correct, you need to buy the Scum Falcon. If you can wait, you'll be able to get it in something you might actually want to buy. The other option, though I have no idea of the timeframe for this, is that FFG have mentioned doing just cardboard kits. maybe we'll see those come out sooner rather than later, but that's speculation.

Soon however is a very vague term. It might be next wave, or it might be in 4-5 waves, nothing is certain.

They seem to be following the Legion model, where the same cards are coming out in both Rebel and Imperial expansions, one right after the next. Legion's release schedule is a bit crazier than X-wings though - they have a new expansion every month. So, again, you're right in that it's a wait, but it won't be a massive 4-5 Wave wait.

Maybe not for Composure and Agile Gunner, but consider other cards in this situation, like Maul or Moldy Crow or BT-1 and 0-0-0. No idea what ship the latter might be bundled with, but Maul will likely come with the Ghost re-release and Moldy Crow with the Hwk. None of these ships, but especially the Hwk, seem likely 'next wave material' at this point, so I don't find it unrealistic to expect 4-5 waves until Scum players will be able to get the Moldy Crow title without buying a Rebel Conversion Kit for example.

Stop right there. I know I've said it before, but I am very much looking forward to that expansion. Do you think they're going to have the Phantom actually be removable from the Ghost ? Eager anticipation. Can't wait to see what they come up with!

You *never* mentioned a conversion kit. You claimed that there was no other value for Rebels or Imperials in that expansion and the rest of that expansion was worthless. I guess you get to decide what is worth something to everyone and what is not.

True, maybe “end of the world”is a bit over the top. My bad. But you sure managed to make it sound pretty awful and hopeless right there at the end of the post I quoted here.

Don't bother arguing, FFG fanatics will defend the broken promises bad faith marketing bull to their deaths.

You will find a way to deal with it.... somehow.

Either the card is worth $40 to you or you can wait a bit until its released in your faction (or borrow/proxy/secondary market)

If this is too much for you exercise your right as a consumer and do not purchase anything... show ffg you are upset with your wallet.

Somehow I think you will get through this crisis.

Sooooo....you have proof that Composure and Agile Gunner won’t be in a future Rebel and Imperial expansions?

Neither of these cards are as evil as the omission of Moldy Crow from the scum kit

You could go for the entirety of second edition without touching composure or agile gunner

You will NEVER field a hwk without moldy

No, they are not $40 cards. They come with a $40 ship though :)

(and a good looking one at that - even if I was skeptical back when we got first looks at it before the movie was out)

Honestly, they will appear in other ship packs before long. Of that I am sure.

Saying and doing are 2 separate things.

FFG have said a lot of things about not needing to buy expansions just to get upgrades or pilots, but so far there is no explanation of how that will work or when it will happen.

Since there are already pilots and cards in wave 1 which you need to buy an expansion to get, im dubious. The only way what theyve promised comes true is if you can mail in p.o.p.s to get components, or if they release multiple conversion kits(one after each wave)

You get every single pilot for the ships you own between the core set and the conversion kit. What pilots are you complaining about?

They never said you didn’t have to buy the core — they said you had to get a new core.

Also, they never said you’d get upgrade cards without buying expansions - they just said you wouldn’t have to buy outside your own faction to get them.

Right now we’ve got two cards that are not faction locked in an expansion. It could happen that they will appear in rebel and imperial packs soon enough. Or maybe there is a delay? Right now, we don’t know enough.
