2.0 - Who will you hate?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

Between the spoiled contents and the demo kits hitting stores yesterday, we're getting enough info to decide what we're going to hate seeing across the board from us.

For example, last night I had my first game, using Sai, Fel and Rexlar against a Sloan swarm. Soontir popped an Academy in the initial volley, but Sloan forced him to take two stress tokens for the trouble. That experience is enough to convince me that Sloan is going to be the absolute WORST. Allowing her to survive is going to be a huge mistake.

Poor Soontir. He kept getting stress tokens and couldn't understand why he wasn't also getting focus tokens from them. :(

I've flown Ryad with Advanced Sensors. Facing her, even knowing first hand what she can do, will make me hate her.

Commander Kaine and 0-0-0.

Undoubtedly Dash if he gets a point deduction

Currently, though, idk everything's just so **** wonderful

Only Iden is irritating if your opponent has a streak of hot greens and then Idens you, causing you to have accomplished nothing before the TIEs shred you

I'm going to hate having to wait 2-3 weeks yet, and even then I'm not going to have a ton of time to play. Does that count?

Iden , hands-down. I'd be shocked if he wasn't in the first batch of stuff to get a price increase. Why they thought giving the Howl Swarm access to something very reminiscent of the 1.0 Lowhrick everyone hated is beyond me, especially because as everything else got de-powered into 2.0 the TIE Swarm kept all of it's efficiencies.

Knowing my classic opponent, I will hate Palob "I wish you were dead" Godalhi

Ketsu Onyo crew is also a bad peach

Iden only works once. I don't know... 40 points is very expensive for a one-time use, even if it is powerful for keeping Howl alive. Still, one round of Howlrunner is a lot better than Howlrunner all game like it would be if they really did have Biggs.

Personally I'm really scared of Imperial Control. Between crazy Jam economy (with ISB Slicers, Jamming Beams, Vader, 0-0-0, and white Jam actions) and crazy stress economy (with 0-0-0, Death Troopers, 7th Sister, and Sloane), they're really going to play mean. Scum I can deal with. Rebels don't scare me. Swarms can be out-tricked. But imperial control? That's genuinely terrifying.

Thee.

I can't quantify why. I just haven't stopped hating him, and maybe never will.

I already hate Palob. I always hated the Shadowcaster 180 and arc with a grieving ability and Palob is that and worse. Not as hard to kill as Assaj but still immensely annoying while on the board. Also lives longer than he should because of token theft.

I’m not sure if I will hate Guri. I’ve always been an Empire player and the Starviper got what I thought was the coolest and most useful roll ability in the game. So I probably will hate not getting to play her more than J will hate playing against her.

R3/FCS E Wings.

Probably.

Sadly 1 point too expensive to run three, as that was literally my first 2nd edition list building thought!

More fun to talk about the stuff people will complain about that will amuse me.

Think of it this way:

Iden costs 8 less than two TIEs

Her ability, very roughly, equates to an additional TIE (you blow it when your TIE would die)

Except that additional TIE is a Howlrunner (also 40 points)

The actual value estimation is obviously a little more complex, but in practice it equates to having to kill two Howlrunners and that's pretty big

Also heh on Palob. I should detest him but I love flying him too much :D

On the plus side, I can confirm that taking him even against what he's supposed to hardcounter (barrage bombers) and still very easily get his *** killed

Just remember he can only take A token...and there can be 4/5 bombers...

keep in mind this means you've paid for Howlrunner twice to give her an extra life. That seems fair to me.

No, you've paid for Howlrunner twice to get an extra life AND an I 4 TIE fighter

So basically a free TIE fighter

dice

Dash, Han Solo, Corran Horn, Fenn Rau (rebel), and all the Defender pilots.

All that is assuming Howlrunner always gets 1-shot. I only see that happening with ordnance. Much of the time her ability won’t do anything that a Hull Upgrade wouldn’t.

I see someone has never rolled green dice

I'd rather take 2x Howl than Howl + Iden, so I'd say that if either of them is undercosted it's Howl. But saying that Iden is less of a good deal than Howl isn't saying much.

I think it's easier to hate Iden, though. Howl boosts her allies, while Iden negates the important hits you just landed.

Iden is just especially not fair if you're banking on expensive ordnance

Any ship that can spam 4 dice attacks beond range 1 piticularly yt2400s with luke sense and navigater. sure you could out dps it sure you could out swarm it. But if your list relies on Arc dodgers your simply at the whim of red dice and due to the evade Nerf there is NOTHING you can do to stop them from rolling 3 hits and a crit and one shooting you the moment you enter it's range
