How to fly Whisper????

I still like Kallus. Sure, there are more ships around, but there are still some quite obvious choices for Kallus.

Kallus is very good, one of the best crew in Imperial, and an excellent choice for a TIE Phantom. People are just a bit locked onto making a super-Whisper with Vader or a cheap one with just Juke, and Kallus kind of puts you a bit in the middle.

I'm currently giving up on a bid at I5 and playing Vader, but I'm watching what other players do and could yet decide to play Kallus and an 8pt bid.

What do you think is better?

Kallus + Advanced Sensors or Vader?

That's a playstyle decision I think.

My current Whisper is set up to be quite defensive, with Lone Wolf, Stealth and Vader. I'm hoping that with 3 green dice, defensive reroll, evade token, focus token, force token... that I can actually see off a lot of incoming fire. If I switched to Kallus instead of Vader I think it would probably trigger a change through the whole build to be more aggressive and I'd go Juke, Kallus, Hull Upgrade and just try to out-trade the opponent.

Whisper w/ AS, Vader, Juke (or lone wolf), and Shield Upgrade comes in at 84 points. Supernatural Luke w/ R2D2 and Servomotors comes in at 82. I'd say these are fairly comparable ships in both performance (3/2-4 with 3 shields and 3 hull for the phantom, and 2-3/2 with 2 shields and 4 hull, and the ability to regen 3 shields) and cost. 1v1 it feels like a bit of a stalemate, but I think I prefer Whisper in this instance. So in the bigger picture, it comes down to wingmates. Howlrunner w/ Swarm Tactics and 3x Obsidians brings the total to 199. Who's got Luke's wing might be what makes the difference.

Personally, I like Whisper a bit lighter than 84 points. I think she's formidable at 70 points with just Juke and Vader, provided those 14 points go somewhere that sees better use.

Definitely way too many repeat actions and maneuvers for a single turn. Is this an official FFG image from an article?

So what are you running next to Whisper? Right now I like Whisper + Deathrain + Redline all with TS to beat the potential swarm Meta. However my Whisper is only at 70 Points with Juke, AS, Kallus.

Whisper can easily get 2 evades and a Focus. Stay at long range, with Juke and Kallus you should be able to push the damage through whilst remaining unpredictable with your barrel roll/boost decloaks.

I've been running this Whisper next to a Palp'd Jendon: Krennic, Trick Shot, Collision Detector (FCS works too), Stealth Device. In 4 games nobody has managed more than 1 damage on her. Could be that people are testing things out though. But it sure feels good to have her back at 4 dice with TL+Focus.

Except for Lone Wolf over Juke, this makes my heart warm. Can't wait for 2.0 to drop so I can get a fresh jar of tears.

I would still fly her with Krennic crew, Lock action on the phantom is valuable.

Lock is good, but IMO Whisper survives by not getting hit, old Whisper survived by melting her target before they returned fire. I believe this Whisper is about the long game.
Token stacking 2 Evades and a Focus seems a good way to stop her from dying. I dont want to take her actions away from making her live longer.

I'm going to test her with Krennic and FCS, because it's dead cheap, but I'm certain that Juke/Vader/AS is considerably better. Vader's ability to token strip if they don't want auto damage (or keep the force token for defense if somehow she is under fire), combined with Juke are going to help push more damage through than an unfocused unforce modified TL'd shot will.

Oph, I got no faith in a Whisper that's too excessively loaded

I def think she's about one of the top 5 pilots of second edition (currently), but you don't want to push that five health, two agility TOO far

Juke at 56 is amazing, + Vader at 70 I think is the absolute maximum of what I'd try (...okay 75 with collision detector, but that's my final offer!!!!)

Btw, personal top five is Whisper, Howlie, Jonus, Deathrain and Palob (imperial bias!!!!), with honorable mentions Serissu, Mux, and Kestal (and Iden, whom I loathe but cannot deny)

I was thinking about trying this out.

"Whisper" — TIE Phantom 52
Juke 4
Agent Kallus 6
Ship Total: 62
Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 70
Sense 6
Fire-Control System 3
Ship Total: 79
Soontir Fel — TIE Interceptor 52
Predator 2
Ship Total: 54

Total 195

I agree. I'm very nervous every time I put 76pts of Whisper on the table and it's why every point of her upgrades are able to be used defensively. So far it's worked out pretty well but I need to see it work another dozen times before I stop being nervous and decide it's actually just really good.

Not sure what Vader's doing with sense, but seems fine otherwise

Of course, I'd personally never touch Soontir (he'd blank out and die before even getting to the table)

Plenty of alternatives, though, like Juke Echo or Palp reaper (because no, you can never have too many "focus" tokens)

Deathrain likes dropping bombs way too much to only give him 2 of them.

amen, proton + seismics always

reload is nice but not as convenient as one would think

also, ive thought about it and realized I've been hypocritical about expensive whisper, because here's my favorite redline:

(197)

"Redline" — TIE Punisher 44
Advanced Sensors 8
Proton Torpedoes 9
Cluster Missiles 5
Fifth Brother 12
Ship Total: 78
"Howlrunner" — TIE Fighter 40
Elusive 3
Ship Total: 43
Del Meeko — TIE Fighter 30
Ship Total: 30
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 23
Ship Total: 23
Academy Pilot — TIE Fighter 23
Ship Total: 23

idk, guess it's just that he doesn't need evades to use sensors? 9 health 1 agi melts generally just as fast if you **** up, though

Does he typically survive long enough to drop more than two?

In my experience yes, definitely. Don't forget you're laying a carpet of fire down in front of you, not many people are coming head on and trying to drop your Punishers asap because it hurts too much. The real limitation on Punishers isn't that they die before they use their ordnance it's that opponents fly defensively until they run out, then pounce.

Where’s the “deadly fear” react? This is terrifying!

Is the white reload action not enough to keep them in bombs? Especially w/ advance sensors? I haven't done any real digging yet, does reload let you flip one charge token, or one charge token on each upgrade card?

Even then, the option of Seismic or Proton has been pretty nice for me so far. Skilled Bombadier and TS as well gives you a lot of choices....

Just one charge, and you're not Slamming clear to reload like Nus did, so that downtime hurts. You DO get to reload, and I prioritise it quite highly as an action, but it's not enough to keep you going forever.
