Online 2.0 Rules Reference browser (1.0.5 Effective 9/18/19)

By J1mBob, in X-Wing

I've made an online phone screen friendly version of the Rules Reference document. Looking at the pdf on my phone was getting a little frustrating, and the links in the pdf didn't work for me. I'm kicking around ideas for additional rules info that might be handy to include. And if you notice any typos or errors, feel free to post here or use the rules browser's built-in reporting mechanism.

Edit: I have a search feature in the browser but it seems to have broken. I’ll post an update when it’s fixed.

Edit: Search function working again!

Edit: Confirmed working on Android devices now.

Edit: Updated to 1.0.2 Rules Reference, effective 9/28/18.

Edit: Updated to 1.0.3 Rules Reference, effective 4/10/19.

Edit: Updated to 1.0.4 Rules Reference, effective 6/6/19. Updated search function to produce cleaner results.

Edit: Updated to 1.0.5 Rules Reference, effective 9/18/19.

Hero.

Pure gold.

First the card browser, now this.....I think we found our first Saint of XWing 2nd Edition.

Is it feasible to populate the different section from an automatic parsing of the pdf file? You'd only need to intervene when you hit a snag sometimes!

This is very intuitive, and super useful. Thanks for sharing this with the community!

If I had the knowledge of how to do automatic parsing of the pdf, then yeah! I did it the hard way with cut, paste, make links, format... If you’re willing to share your insights on how to automate the process, please feel free to contact me.

I wish, never touched pdf programming.

Maybe someone solved this with an API

The menu does not open on mobile browsers (tested on Chrome and Firefox on Android).

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll have a chance to work on debugging this issue this weekend. Another person reported that the menu didn’t open in portrait mode. Could you see if the menu shows in landscape mode?

Just tried it on Chrome (Android) and the menu did not work in landscape mode either.

I might have fixed the Android issue. I've got it working using Chrome Device mode on my PC, but that could be missing some hidden problems. If someone could test and let me know, that would be really helpful.

Edit: @Mu0n729 , @costi , @Scrivner , could any of you take a peek?

Is your phone an Android?

Yep Galaxy 8 running Chrome

Works on my LG G5 now (it used to not work in both portrait and landscape btw)

Love it.

Just a tiny suggestion for easier browsing on small screens: maybe add forward and backward buttons to jump to the next section. I know it's a reference source, but it would ease navigation for someone wanting to read it all. Just make it small ;)

Sweet! Uhoh. I just realized.... How am I going to explain me burning through our data limit to my wife from me making use of this wonderful tool? :D

I thought about that and then didn’t, thinking I’d be the only one nerdy enough to want to just read through the Rules Reference like it was some kind of romance novel...

I like your suggestion and think small arrow buttons will suffice.

Would it be possible to add a "version" tag to each of the sub sections. I know it is currently the only version but it would allow people to know if they are seeing the latest version or not when changes start to occur.

Yes, I was actually planning to make the default web page the most recent version but also keeping previous versions available for posterity. A footnote with the version number sounds like a great idea.

@J1mBob - I missed this earlier - sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I just tried again on my Android phone using Chrome and the menu problem is fixed for me. Seems to be working well now. Thanks for your efforts on this - it will be super helpful as a reference during games!

Started using this three weeks ago. Still using it. Thanks for making this super handy tool for the community! I always go to your website instead of the pdf because it's so much faster and easier to navigate.

Updated for 1.0.2 Rules Reference. The previous 1.0.0 set is available via link on the home page.

Updated for 1.0.3 Rules Reference. I've included a nice Summary of Changes link page too.
