Which faction should I choose?

By Koing907, in X-Wing

Scum's pretty versatile too if you enjoy their ships more. Lot of viable ships, even the humble khirax is incredibly solid

Been really enjoying: Moldy/serissu/boba/Sabine/r5-p8 kimoglia/fangs/vipers (collision detector!!!!!)/khirax/Sol (bit fragile, though)

dont sleep on Fearless , it is actually REALLY good in this world of limited mods (esp when much initiative 0s your target to kill it before it fires)

Also Cloaking Device on normally clunky ships makes for a hilarious flanker

Never flown igs (not fan of the model) but I'm sure they're swell. And you also got Drea to enable generic swarms

Only doubtful of the g1-a and ofc the JM5k (still, dengar doesn't look too awful)

Only faction I'm not a fan of are about rebels currently. They'd be FAR better off if their ****** Kwings had ****** sensors so I could put some ****** Trajectory Sims on them

Because otherwise they got like no recourse to swarms outside well flown xwings or Biggs blobs

And, while the Xwing is Xcellent (sorry, not sorry) rebs just don't have a phantom/interceptor/fang/viper level ship. The awing is neat but it plays more of a support role with only two dice and bare minimum mods (fantastic blocker, though)

Well, maybe shuttle Sabine?

@Koing907 November? Going to the Mynock Open? See you there.

I'm in the same boat as you, friend. At launch I can only pick up one conversion kit + new core. My heart is Rebel, but my play style is Imperial and the Scum has soo many tempting goodies (Guri)!

I'm trying to be pragmatic. I have more Rebel ships than anything else so a Reb conversion kit will make the most sense to choose, on paper at least. Maybe that's how you can approach your dilemma.

Any of the factions should be fun to play.

Folks are saying Rebels are the weakest faction at launch, but I don't know if that's a 1.0 mentality that's coloring their opinion or if its from hands-on experience. Having said that, no matter what you choose, there's going to be a learning curve for everybody and in time you'll be able to suss out what works for your given faction.

Choose a faction, stick to it, you will make it work. And then down the road you can try out one of the other factions.

Too soon to tell especially with only 3 of the 7 factions out. After wave 2 we will get a better picture when Resistance and 1st Order is out. The original 3 still have a lead thanks to the conversion kits so if you want to play the other 4 it is best to stick to wave release format (only 2.0 wave ships) until every faction has caught up to the dozens of ships Empire and Alliance has.

Evergreen Cup. :)

Yea, I've read people's opinions, but I can't tell how things will actually play out on the table, without actually playing it on the table. Catch-22. The issue is committing to a whole conversion kit at once.

Where is / What is the Evergreen Cup?

Just choose a faction and hold onto your pants!

Maybe just pick the conversion kit that best suits/fits your current collection. since you're planning on getting more down the road anyway. Or go with something that's different from what a friend is getting, then you can loan each other stuff and try out two factions before you buy more.

Local event we have in the Pacific Northwest. It's being held in Tacoma this year. 3-person teams from each store (multiple teams from each store are allowed) It's about as much attendance as the Regionals. :)

In my experience, on the opponent's side of the table, they just pop before accomplishing anything. Unlike barrage bombers, they have neither the health nor ease of leveraging ordnance (nor Jonus)

Doesn't anyone flank anymore? It seems like everyone just flies at each other if I read these forums.

with Zs?

you can flank all you like, but those barely mobile and ridiculously fragile buggers are so easy to kill that it's basically a lost cause

the player tried doing the smarter thing of flanking with a ship worth a **** (Corran), but sadly didn't play out because Zs are fragile and wholly unimpressive as any sort of form. Got trivially steamrolled by four TIEs

I swear, I have the most trouble killing Z's for some reason. I hate seeing them. when they are on the table, my opponent will be practically guaranteed to roll hot green dice while my reds go stone cold. I can fire at other ships with great success but as soon as the z gets close, ice cubes......

my weakness is Tie swarms. I can kill any other ship going but swarms seem to always be trouble.

more flying and less shooting is needed but I instinctively go balls to the wall against swarms. ?

If you wanna go balls out v ties, you'll want scum

Serissu is the anti-howlrunner and she makes things like the moldy crow infuriatingly difficult to kill

Sabine

(38) Palob Godalhi
(8) Lando Calrissian
(1) Trick Shot
(12) Moldy Crow
Points 59

(43) Serissu
(5) Ion Cannon
(3) Swarm Tactics
Points 51

(68) Sabine Wren
(3) Fearless
(6) Shadow Caster
(10) Perceptive Copilot
(2) Tactical Scrambler
Points 89

Total points: 199

This is a brick of a list that flies like a rebel blob but is mobile enough to break away as needed. The caster is actually fast enough to fly across the table to dictate where engagements will take place, letting you break up swarms against obstacles more easily

Me too!
