UK Nationals

By Evil Doctor T, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Evening all,

We (myself and Wannabe phd) have gathered together all of information we could from nationals for your perusal on our blog - https://themistlandswatchtower.wordpress.com/2018/08/28/uk-nationals/

It was a great event and the first official nationals we have had for the game. We will be following up with a brand new podcast discussing our games which I will share in the coming days.

Hope you enjoy

I was so excited by the name of your blog...but only one Waiqar army at the event! ?

It's okay, I'll follow you guys anyway.

Well duh, the watchtowers are to keep the undead OUT, silly.

I'm waiting for lord V to crack my undead out again. But yeah, the UK seems to be Latari heavy, it was the same at last year's side event they ran at nationals

Grammar

Had a disappointing run this year in terms of Regionals and Nationals compared to my run in Store Championships and Strategic Encounters.

Back to the drawing board! I will bring victory to the Waiqar again! Mark my words! :P I learnt a lot despite the losses, so I took something away from it.

But yeah, British people love Elves!

Looking forward to the podcast.

Thanks Zaaik

Wait for lord V and some less uthuk friendly objectives/deployments

How did you find the wraiths performed for you? Bar a vassal game I haven't had chance to try mine yet

Well, the first two games I played with them, they did really well... really pulled their weight and did exactly what I expected of them.

However, the last 7 or so games they've not really done anything and I'm realising that you have to play with them flawlessly if you want them to do well! You cannot afford to make mistakes with the Wraiths and you have to make sure the initial engagement happens on your terms.

I've decided to try a list with them as a 2x2, hoping they'll last a bit longer. I'm starting to think they're more useful to show up late to the party and get involved in engagements that are already happening rather than go out and hunt targets necessarily, just so you can have more chances of getting them into combat on your terms... by moving through your own engaged troops and then setting yourself up for flanks and stuff. This might not necessarily be the case with a 2x2, but it for sure is when you do a 3x1 as once you lose that first tray, I feel they can become pretty much pointless if you have not gotten that threat 3 attack out, also the lack of re rolls I got started to get to me as my luck started to run out.

Building a list that relies on burning the morale deck for Waiqar at the moment and it doesn't include any heroes (until Lord V shows up, then I'll try something crazy). I actually played as Uthuk against it and it ended up a 6-5 victory to Uthuk, however more games will be needed as a couple of mistakes were made on both sides and also deployment/objective helped.

But there were positives.
