More Core Sets?

By Myotismon, in X-Wing

Hi!

I'm just wondering if there are any plans to release any other core sets like they had in the 1st edition?

It would really make getting into those factions a little easier in my opinion and I'll be honest, the main reason I have held off on purchasing any First Order/Resistance expansions is because of the lack of a core set associated with them.

I think there's a possibilty that when the Clone Wars factions are released, we may get an additional core set; CIS and New Republic factions

So you don’t think we will see any before that?

That would be a little disappointing.

I sort of wish that the ST era got a core set so that they could have access to a flappy wing Poe's X-Wing but with Poe being in that expansion I sort of don't seem them doing one for them any time soon. The PT will likely get one since the Jedi Starfighter they showed off on the Star Wars show was Anakin's yellow one rather than the generic red Delta 7 seen in the original art shown at Gencon and in ATOC.

in truth, I haven't heard a **** thing about a new core set

speaking logically, it seems only proper to have sets for each of the 3 trilogies so that players don't have to bounce from rebel/empire to their preferred faction (apart from scum...sorry!)

Its the cost they play for having ships, and pilots from all three eras and are able to likely get access to ships that will be unique to those eras like the Tech one for the ST era ships.

Never say never. Arguably the best time to have a re-release of the ST core set was in Wave 2. It could still happen but it's looking unlikely. Perhaps it's too much with everything else that they have to do.

I would bet on there being a prequel core set.

Agreed.

I wish they would update their basic dice to a different colours to get away from the Christmas tree colours we have now.

I think it's a real outlier that you'd even get one for the Clone Wars stuff. There won't be another core set for years .

I'm curious if they would sell a damage deck, maneuver templates and dice in a pack, no ships. Somebody has already pointed out they do something similar with Runewars.

I don't think more core sets are likely, however, a navy starter set is a possibility.

Think of the Most Wanted box from 1.0.

I think not making a Prequel core set could be a mistake. How many new players would jump on a self sufficient relevant? entry to the prequels in XWM.

7? 9?

If they do, it'll be $39.99.

More core sets would probably be a good idea on their part. A 2.0 re-release of FO and resistance and an all new CIS/Republic would help new players get into that faction.

I'd even suggest that they add a buying list feature to the squad builder app (if it isn't there already). This would basically just be a list of the different sets and expansions that you would need to buy to make the squad you just built.

Scum still get the short end of the stick because they don't have a rival faction to be paired with. Their core set would be some sort of unholy stand-alone set where you would only have a scum on scum game from it.

At least 12.

3 ships and Damage deck and templates for new players all for 39.99

Put it this way, I jumped on X Wing because of the new blue core. Don't know why, just new core seemed like a good entry. It will surely be the same for prequels fans.

That was what I was thinking. It seems to make sense that they would offer core sets for those. It would certainly make it easier for new players to jump into the action if they were interested in only playing specific factions against each other

That would be a great idea! Games Workshop has something very similar for their Citadel Paints. You can use various different search variables to find the paints you need to purchase for the projects you want to complete. You can even add items to a wish list so you can more easily find them later for purchasing (that is if you wanted to spend the money on Citadel Paints haha)

Blue Core was how I started. I'm looking to stay with Resistance and FO just because I played them so much before I even had rebel and imperial ships. A 2.0 ST Core would be a good move.

I sure hope there’s a Clone Wars core. Aside from it being the most logical way to release 2 variants of the Jedi Starfighter (assuming they don’t intend to release more aces type packs? I got that vibe from something I read.), I would definitely buy just be Clone Wars core set if I were starting out then. Of course I don’t want to wait that much longer to be able to play again, so I’ll bite for the one we’ve got on launch day.

I'd be really surprised if there wasn't a Clone Wars set with promotional art for the TV show beautifully splashed along the box cover

Imo it's FAR more likely we'll get Clone Wars core before Sequel core, unless they start pushing that other Cartoon hard (but it's a fresh show, while Clone Wars already has a following)

Well the TFA core sets in 1st edition were slightly different in what a 2.0 alt core would be as the TFA were not entirely new factions but just different ships. Now of course when there is like several factions it is frustrating that a starter set has 2 factions and odds are were not factions you want to chose. Star trek Attack Wing has had a bit of a soft relaunch and set up theit starter to be the classic Federation vs Klingon with separate Romulan and Dominion Starters. Perhaps faction starters might be the way to go.

TFA core set was also released in support (re: opportunity) of the new series of movies coming out. Any other core sets would need some sort of obvious major tie in (I'm suggesting that a cartoon TV series isn't sufficient to create an entire additional core set). Faction starters make far more sense, given that most people buying a core set aren't going to use 1/2 the factions that go in them.

All the more reason to drop a Core Set with Resistance splashed on the cover. And maybe the ships from that show, rather than a T-70 and TIE/fo.

SW is always about the merchandising. . .

I would be very much in favor of multiple faction core sets. I have multiple players for my collection and end up getting multiple core sets just to get the damage decks needed. If I have to do that, it would be nice to at least spare myself from 16 useless TIEs (anyone want some xmas tree ornaments?) I would be thrilled if they sold the decks by themselves in a blister.

Ha! Yes please. Need some painting surfaces to practice on!
