Checked Barnes and Noble today for X-Wing stuff. Lots of 1st ed. stuff on clearance. Half off stuff includes T-65 and T-70 X-Wings, Fang Fighters, the Original Core Set, etc. Some stuff is even more (Heroes of the Resistance at 10 dollars, Z-95s at 4). Figured I'd post here for anyone who has some spots in their conversions they want to fill without trading.
Barnes and Noble Clearance Prices
I'll be hitting up a couple of these tomorrow, I could really go for a $10 heroes of the resistance or some such. Fingers crossed for some good deals to grab some of the ships I've had a hard time investing in, like the ghost.
Heh, I'm gonna hit my local B&N tonight and I hope they don't have a $10 Imperial Aces box. I already have four squints, but I'll buy another two as long as they're Saber and Royal Guard paint jobs. I need a few other ships I've been on the fence about as well, so thanks for the heads up!
Edit: Poop - B&N closes at 7 on Sundays. Guess I'll have to hit it tomorrow.
Edited by Bad Idea ComicsDang it! I was just in a neighboring town and hour from home with a B&N. We were talking about stuff going on clearance. I should have gone by!
Dang it! I just bought a protectorate fighter a few weeks ago, and it wasn't discounted. Really not any other ships I need.
Went to my nearest B&N tonigh. Nothing was on sale at that one.
To clarify, all these deals I saw were for online orders. I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't be that way in store, but I cant say since the nearest one to me is like 50 miles away.

I was gonna ask were those in store, or online ordering.. But your latter post answered that..

I always hate it when i see an email alert, or a post from someone, about a sale going on in a store, and either
A) the store's already shut, or
B) the sale is almost done for..
Such as when Blockbusters started shutting down many of their stores, i kept popping into several, asking "so when you putting stuff on sale".. Kept getting the run-around. Went away for Origins, came back, and 3 of the local stores, had already had over 70% of their stuff sold OFF! They started their sales, the DAY I LEFT. No alerts. No emails (for those on the mailing lists).. No announcements.. NADA.

Last time i was in one, was 2 weeks ago, and saw nothing on sale.. Might have to look at their online lists..
My local B&N is a 3-5 minute drive, so popping in is easy. Sucked they were closed, but moreso because I was excited to buy minis I probably don't need - lol - than any inconvenience. I'll stop in after work or maybe during lunch (work is 5 minutes the other way, so still a quick hop). Will report back tomorrow!
I just ordered two Advance prototypes online, the person in the store had no idea of the sale.
It's seems online only so far, and it seems to be an issue of "availability ".
I saw y, x, fang, and TIE A.P, and 1st core half off.
I also saw tie bombers listed for $3, but not "available "

I saw similar when i looked online, after seeing this thread..
What made me laugh too, is i saw some other stores also doing similar sales, such as walmart (even though not ONE store i've ever been in had a single X-wing mini product on the shelves), and even bedsbaths&beyond..??
Since when did THEY do gaming products?
As someone new to the game, is there anything I should try to purchase now on clearance (and get a conversion kit when they come out) or do you all think it would be better to just go with all second edition?
Edited by jbuddI stopped at my local store and they do not have any X-wing minis on clearance. It looks like it might be online only, but even then I found pricing was inconsistent.

Their online store is a mess. Every christmas my aunt gives me B&N gift cards but I don't really buy books so I always spend it on X-Wing stuff. It's hard enough just to find the right search terms to actually make them display all the X-Wing products without cluttering it up too much with the old X-wing books and assorted star wars merchandise, and on top of it all you have to watch out for their "marketplace sellers" as to whether something is actually in stock and/or qualifies for free shipping totals.

I think it's easier to not use the search, and instead use the category navigation. Navigate to Hobbies and Collectibles>Scroll down to Customer Favorites and click Star Wars>Click Strategy Games filter on the left side.
Currently that takes me to 4 pages that are FFG SW miniature games, Destiny, and a couple of Hasbro games mixed in.
EDIT: Although, paging through it, I'm not sure everything shows up here. They probably screwed the tags up on some items.

Honestly, buy ships that you’re familiar with and like and want to fly. You’ll have more fun flying your favorite ship rather than some random ship you’ve never heard of just because the interwebs told you it was good.
As for getting into the game right now, do a bit of searching and you should be able to find a few threads discussing it in depth. But in short you have two options:
1. Buy 2.0 stuff only, and slowly build your collection as ships are (re)released. More expensive in the long run but easier on the wallet up front.
2. But 1.0 stuff on clearance or pick up someone collection used on eBay for cheap (You shouldn’t be spending more than 50% MSRP), then buy the conversion kit(s) for the faction(s) you want to play in 2.0. More expensive up front but cheaper in the long run.
If it were me, I would go with the 2nd option. This will let you try a variety of things and decide what you like. Plus, if you decide you don’t like some/all of the ships, you can turn around and sell them on eBay and make most of your money back.
Either way you go, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to pick 1 or 2 factions that you think you want to play and focus on those. This thread has some good summaries of how each faction feels to play.
Lastly, welcome to the game!
Nothing on sale in my two local stores here, but both had shelves overflowing with ships, so hopefully soon
HobbytownUSA will be opening up a new store near me soon (still am awaiting an email from them on the DATE of that opening), so i am hoping i see some sales then!
The one thing on sale and available online is the TIE Advanced Prototype for $7.47. If you're a member (I am) you get free express shipping, so that's pretty dirt cheap and I was planning on picking up a second one, so, DONE! ****, I might pick up a few more - how many TAP dials come with the Imp conversion kit?

Large ships. Buy large ships (not epic, per se) because small ship prices are going up from $15 to $20 and Large ship should follow suit.
For example, 1st ed M. Falcon is $30, 2nd ed. is $40
.(See PanchX1's comment below)
However, the Firespray is $30 in either edition, so...

The second edition falcon is in a different faction, a different model and comes with a second ship, the escape pod. it's more like the HOTR box which was also $40 in 2st edition. I think that's a better comparison.
Yup! You are correct.
The sale is only online as far as I know. But if you have a local B&N, you can order online and select in-store pickup if they have it in stock.
I will give them another look see, and if there's anything decent, i might buy it to have it 'in store pick up'
