Good quick build squad for demos??!

By drail14me, in X-Wing

I’m headed to a neighboring store today to do some demos of 2nd Ed. Going to use threat level 5 quick builds.

For one player, I’m going to use Luke Skywalker and a Grey Sqd Y-Wing from the T-65 and Y-Wing threat cards. I think this pair really gives a good experience with changes in 2nd Ed with Force, Devices and Turrets in the squad.

I’m not sure what to pair it against though to give the other player the same feel! Thought about a mirror match but really want to bring the Empire in but want to expose them to the same three things, Force, Turrets and Devices....or at least something from the system phase. Ideas?

Perhaps Vader+Some TIEs? Don't think anything triggers in the systems phase (no bombs or decloak) for the Empire yet, and no turrets either. Can't find the TIE Advanced threat card on the interwebs yet, so I don't know how many TIEs would be alongside Vader, but you could get a very Trench Run feel if you have Vader+2 TIEs vs. Luke+Y-Wing. If that doesn't work, use one of the Core Set threat cards with 3 TIEs.

Vader alone is threat 5 so pairing that with TIEs might be a little too powerful.

Luke and the Y-Wing come to 129 points. May just build a similar pointed list like:

Tie Aggressor with ion turret

Tie Bomber with Proton Bomb and Cluster Missle

Inquisitor with Supernatural

That comes to 126 pts

Although vader alone is a threat of 5, anybody dabbling with a demo surely would not have the potential to fully unlock him. Plus, it feels iconic to have a trench run game even in a demo. Go ahead with Vader and ties.

How about...

Vader w/ Sense and Fire-Control Systems

Obsidian Squadron Pilot x2

127 Points of thematic goodness.

If you want the Bombs/Turrets/Force experience, then use the squad you built. Personally, I think the thematic one will be much more player-friendly. I would, however, recommend Sense on the TAP (supernatural is better on aces than on a PS3 generic) and upgrading to Seventh Sister for the opportunity of flying an ace.
