It's all of the Holonets. The Empire has conquered Mon Cal and now the Fleet is Missing!

So I'm fishing for ideas for my campaign.

I dropped the tidbit of color that the holonets reported that Imperial Naval forces have taken control of the Mon Cal system. The players all seemed appropriately distressed and I'm also looking for a "next mission" as the PC's wrap up the current plot line and it just ocured to me,

"Hey, self, if the Empire just put an Imperial fleet into Mon Cal and we all know that the Mon Cal are contributing a LOT to the rebel space navy, what if that fleet is now missing. NO! That fleet IS missing!"

Now there's drama.

The obvious thing for my PC's to face once they get back to base is:

"Rumors have it that Mon Cal is now in Imperial hands and the fleet is missing! We need a Special Operations Group team of discrete operatives, with the fastest spaceship in the galaxy, to back trace a special ops net to make contact with the remnants of the main Rebel fleet. Unfortunately all we have is you!"

So as I begin to hammer out this plot line, I thought I'd open this up to public discourse.

Where would you take this plot nugget and what complications should be taken into consideration?

How different from the comics version do you want to go?

Copperbell kinda beat me to it. That kind of scenario was a recent storyline in the comic.

The Empire took control, and a deathbed holo message from imprisoned King Lee Char spurred the Mon Cala to take the fleet and join the Rebellion.

In the next storyline - which I’m a couple issues behind in reading - someone that was believed to be an ally within the Empire has been revealed as an informant for Vader, and has led the Empire to the location of the entire Rebel fleet. That’s where I’ve left off.

As different as you want to make them. I don't know what comic you are referencing so sharing issues from the comic would help too.

The Mon Cal storyline is Star Wars #44-49. The next mentioned (“Hope Dies”) began in #50, and is still running.

If you’re interested, concurrent with the Mon Cal story, Darth Vader v2 #13-17, set earlier in the timeline (not too long after the formation of the Empire) centered around the Empire taking control of Mon Cala.
