v2 Dial Storage Ideas?

Personally, I'm still clinging to original box storage as much as possible. I know most people probably prefer plano/foam for their ships but the original box is still a really nice size for dials and tokens. You can fold construction paper to make channels, 2" for 2.0 dials, 1.5" for small tokens. Here's my Rebel box in progress with the dial channel updated to fit 2.0.

I really like this, so much in so little space. Where do you put the large/medium bases for your ships? And what did you do about the hole in the box lid?

The hole is pretty simple. Just a couple strips of packing tape on the front and back of the lid seals it up and makes a nice window still.

Actually, I just cut a large enough piece of plastic from a large clam shell and then tape it on from the inside. If you've ever bought a large expansion, it comes with plastic large enough to cover the the hole. This gives you nice window showing the fleet with no tape showing from the outside.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I've spent more time than I should probably admit 'optimizing' it lately and adjusting for the incoming larger dials and medium bases. It's been kind of therapeutic while I anxiously wait for 2.0 stuff to arrive :).

In this particular box, the medium bases & tokens are under the HWK and the Falcon is just sitting on top of it's base & tokens.

The hole makes a nice window, I just take a chunk of plastic cut from a large expansion clam shell and tape it over the hole from the inside.

Though it's not as safe for the ships as foam probably, I think it's probably similar to or better than plano because of paper/cardboard wall edges vs. hard plastic. And, I really like the compact storage! Currently I've got a core box for each of Rebel, Imperial, and Scum plus a single shared deep plano box for the overflow ships that don't fit in those boxes. Those four boxes fit all 1st edition ships with multiples of many of the small and medium ships.

Anyhow, as I said, I've been re-working the boxes lately to prep for 2.0 and was thinking I'd probably post what they look like once the 2.0 components are in. If you're interested and thinking about doing a similar solution though, I can go ahead and get those images up sooner. Maybe seeing my layouts could save you some time fitting figuring out how to fit things in.

grammar

I use laminate flooring sub floor foam to line the sides and bottom of my compartments.

it is about 1/16" thick and compresses very easily. It doesn't add much width either.

This is enough to absorb the shock of carrying the ships in a shoulder bag to my gaming group.

I've used it for a couple of years and no fatalities. The bag gets jostled quite a bit on the walk too.

Do they work for small bases too? Also, what do you use for medium and large bases? I'm thinking about converting to binders, seems fairly simple.

Psst...

dial upgrade kits

Here's right. I've been planning this move since they revealed the disk change. I use the common Plano tower cases and there just no real way I've found to reasonable for the new larger dial back now that I have some in hand from reaper/renegade packs. But a few upgrade kits, some fancy paint, and at the end of the day I can actually store more this way. So, winning.

There is no way I can afford dial upgrade kits fr all my dials. That's just not a realistic option for some people.

Unless I missed some post earlier, why do you need upgrades for every dial? Most is 8 imp dials if you want a swarm. But otherwise 1 or 2 kits per faction should be plenty. The "maneuver" part of the dial condenses down to a very small space once you start stacking them without the plastic belly button that holds them together. Also...no one says you *have* to be faction specific on your covers either. If you are using 4 ship lists, 2 kits of whatever faction are fine. Just slap the maneuver dials in there and a 1/2/3/4 number where the ship icon chit goes to correspond with your ship number and TL and you are good to go. $18 covers six ships.Swap out the cardboard based upon list. Done.

Admittedly, while this will work, it's a bit of less convenient to grab and go when you need to re-assemble each dial you intend to use. Also a pain when you're setting up multiple lists to remain together. Works for you, but not for me. I think @heychadwick and I both end up requiring alternative storage solutions.

That said, my coin boxes arrived this week, and my 2.0 is on sale tomorrow, so this weekend I'll be populating these and then finding a shelf in my minis case for the new dials.

agreed, pulling dials apart is no fun.

I show up at our local game night with multiple lists as I can carry my complete small ship collection with me.

I will fly whatever is needed as others tend to bring specific faction lists they want to test as potential tournament lists.

Thankfully the new dials fit my existing storage system so no need to find a new storage solution.

Besides, although nice, the plastic dials do take up a lot more space than just cardboard ones.

I don't fly the same list all the time. I often don't know what I'll be doing as I do other games than death match. I lend out ships to people, too. I take everything with me all the time.

They work perfectly for small bases.

For medium bases, the 9 pocket Ultra Pro Pages works perfectly (they fit standard cards)

For large bases, I use Ultra Pro 2x2 (4 pocket) pages. They fit perfectly in them.
