Labyrinths, Epic Multiplayer, and Starting Investigators...

By dysartes, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I might be overthinking things here, but bear with me...

  • Epic Multiplayer mode for Labyrinths of Lunacy (LoL) has 3 groups of up to 4 players each, all of whom are taking part in the same scenario.
  • Multiple cards within LoL make use of the Per Investigator (PI) symbol.
  • According to the Rules Reference, the PI symbol is multiplied by the number of investigators who started the scenario.

Unless I'm missing something, this should make LoL insanely difficult when played in Epic Multiplayer mode, due to the PI symbol potentially being worth 12, rather than the usual 1-4.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the Campaign Guide to get around this, at least not in the Epic Multiplayer section.

I only noticed this towards the end of the local LoL event we had a couple of weeks ago, and by the time I pointed out we'd resolved enough stuff on a per table basis not to change - this was probably a good thing, given we were three investigators down by the end!

Is there something I'm missing which means that the PI symbol doesn't make LoL utterly horrific on Epic Multiplayer mode, just in case I get to play it again?

I guess it's implied in the first bullet point of the Epic Multiplayer rules ("Each group has its own play area, and plays the game separately from one another.") By the way, "per table" is how Matt made us play LoL at GenCon 2017.
