I was read through the sniper card for the new commandos and found that high velocity says it only works if all the weapons in the attack pool have it. I was hoping that it was like all the other specials in that as long as one weapon has it, the pool has it. Case in point blast, throw one grenade and everything now ignores cover. I had hopes of shooting Vader with a whole unit of commandos and not having to worry about deflect.
Anyone else underwhelmed by high velocity?
It makes perfect sense from a mechanical perspective (You can't dodge a bullet you don't know is coming, but adding a bullet to a barrage of lasers doesn't make the lasers harder to dodge*), and Vader really doesn't need another counter, especially since the Scout Troopers will be much less effective against Luke in compariso since by the time they can shoot him, he's in range to slaughter them.
*In contrast, blast applying to the whole unit makes perfect sense, since grenades are used to flush people out of cover and into the line of fire. Pierce and Impact are a little odd, but since their values are still based on the weapon(s) contributing, it's not that hard for me to write them off as an abstraction to speed up gameplay.
Since dodge is a pretty meh action since it cannot remove crits, yes.
No, I'm not underwhelmed. You have the option of either having your sniper shoot at a different target than the rest of the unit, or using the strike team with a sniper in which case most of your attacks will be just from that mini.
I've killed off a few stormtroopers who were hiding with a Dodge token - sharpshooter took away the cover, high velocity made them unable to dodge, they whiffed their defense roll.

Sniper rifles have pierce 1. That Stormtrooper's die might as well not be there.

You're only rolling one hit? You'd better send your snipers back to boot camp ?
I've played 3 games with and one against so far and found it really good. When you need to plink a Jedi (or Leia) in the head it's great. Been seeing plenty of heroes dying with a dodge still on the card because of it.
I really use it more for the Pierce. High Velocity is a situational bonus.

does this work that well with Luke though? He's immune to the pierce and rolls a red, does he lose the 'deflect' ability with High Velocity?

Yup, deflect requires him to spend a dodge token which high velocity prevents.
Everyone has made some good points. I was just hoping that the rule covered the whole attack pool. Got sick of Vader walking over to kill me and deflecting my shots back. I mean he practically has a free dodge every turn. So I just got two boxes and run two sniper teams. ?

I guess when you remember the points difference between kitted Vader and those infantry you are shooting at him he probably should be able to just shred most of them.... I reckon if you’re shooting 240pts of z6 infantry at Vader he will go down pretty **** fast, dodge or not.
