The real important question about the SSD

By Coranhann, in Star Wars: Armada

Ok, so we got some news about Armada, and that's really cool.

But day dreaming about rules, profiles and upgrades we don't have yet is... well, just that, day dreaming.

Now, for a real important question:

The SSD Executor had a blueish taint, the revealed model was classic imperial grey. Do we riot to get a blue version? *

* Of course we don't, it took them TWO years to figure out how to produce this miniature. We shouldn't get them to delay it anymore!

Yes we should, Canonical appearance is everything! ?

Get yourself a pair of these. Chill out, and put the Molotovs away.

Weirdly enough, while they did the test on more expensive things, such as a smartphone, I think I'd feel worst seeing them doing that with a beautiful 200$ models I'm not even sure I'll allow myself to buy.

Seeing I'm painting it anyway, I don't care. The better question is, can we get FFG to release it earlier.....

..and cheaper!

I'd settle for more articles right now.

That's when quality starts to slip up.

Maybe not.

But...

As someone who buys Eaglemoss starships, quality control is something I praise FFG for. That's worth the price.

Better question - why blue engines?!

What the WHY!?

I'll second that.

Eh, I can fix that in five minutes...lol

Of course not. It looks so much better in proper Imperial Grey than that lame blue color.

Because they know some people are going to repaint it, or more to the point HAVE it repainted to be movie accurate. FFG is just trying to give Dras some love!

BTW, that on screen SSD is grey, the ISDs are white, you are looking at the night side of the ship based on the position of the local star. See how the planet, ISDs and SSD lighting match up. Only part of the cityscape and about half of the bridge tower are in full sunlight.

Also. The lighting effects on the SSD were blue and green, adding to the slight blue tinge.

Plus, every ship in Empire and Jedi had hints of blue to them at times due to the blue screen technique they used to film the models in flight.

Im not a fan of the mismatched colored panels. I'd rather have solid blue or gray and have them stop making it like it's a patch work quilt.

I went onto a UK stockist website, and they have the SSD release date as 216 days from today; they had some stock photos displaying the cards, dials, etc.

Unless someone can verify otherwise, it looks like the SSD does not move at all. It has about 9 defensive tokens, but the pictures show a lack of move charts.

If the beast cannot move, and does not count as a scoring unit, I think I'll be OK if someone puts it on the board.

We have seen the card for the regular 22 hull version, and it can go speed two. It has no natural yaw clicks, but can turn with a nav command, or Jerry (albeit there's some argument as to wether Jerry works with it or not ).

What argument?

As best I understand it, it comes from the premise that since the ship has no native maneuverability so clearly the devs intended for it to never turn. Obviously they have released no such statement, so I don't get it either.

Does this mean that Jerry no longer works on VSDs at speed 2 or ISDs at speed 3? Because isn't that the same argument?

OK, so we're back to imagining stuff. I thought as much, just wanted to be sure :P

I thought the argument was, "We don't yet know the rules for Huge ships, and have no idea what differences and/or restrictions they may have."

To be fair (someone may have already said it) the model they displayed at GenCon was a prototype and not the overall finished product. Thus the engines might still be red and it could be a more bluish gray than the whitish gray we see on the ISD.

OH, I personally have none. I think Jerry will work fine with it, but somewhere in the forums I think I read someone tought it wouldn't work. I could be wrong....
